Why is the OP-XY UX is bad?

To be clear, I like my op-xy but let’s get real: the UX is pretty bad in a lot of ways.

  • in the mixer section you can increase volume and send levels for aux tracks that have no audio (eg MIDI and CV). This is objectively terrible UX
  • jumping from track to mixer and back (for example) does not recall that last module you were using (eg filter). For the love of god just make this work the same as the op-1. Seriously wtf is going on here?
  • Aux tracks use a “red” led yet red signifies recording for every other aspect of the device. This might not be able to be fixed if they don’t have other colors but why was this not like blue or green or anything other than red?
  • Text is absurdly small and nearly impossible to read for certain parameters. There is no reason for this at all.
  • Resampling is not consistent across track types. I can’t play a key using the sampler engine and resample it. Why not? It works for all the other engine types.

Hopefully they can address some of these issues instead of building cheap computer cases or whatever other marketing gimmick they have planned next.

TE can easily create or use, and code in good rendering for a proper pixel-accurate font, that’ll be perfectly readable at small scales like the ones they’re doing on the XY. But for some truly mysterious reason, they chose to go with this “ooh it’s sans-serif” Apple-esque font that was never meant to be readable at such a small size, on a machine that is meant to invoke all the digital sampler/sequencer aesthetics of old. It’s a baffling design choice that can be changed if ego was relinquished for the sake of both functional and visual improvement.

Shame so many people winged about the OP-Z App.
