Artists With OP-1

The one-and-only Kid Koala, with what I would say is a… plethora of guitar pedals. I love the only comment on the IG post. https://twitter.com/EarthQuakerDev/status/782633802510307330

Tom Furse from The Horrors has made an album solely on the OP-1.

Listened to some of this earlier. TBH wasn’t that impressed with the tracks or the visuals. I don’t get the whole ‘did it in a week’ press release… That’s not a good thing if it sounds like its obviously been done that quickly/throwaway. Mostly sounded like a bunch of average undeveloped ideas to me? Got tons of this kind of stuff laying around and from the strength of battle tracks I’d guess most other people do too

The guys voice is suspect but they use an op-1 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J-_K-IbJYvE

Infairness it’s a pretty tough song to cover

Not what I’m in to but I thought he did a pretty good job with that vocal…

I could not agree more with your post. I like a lot of The Horrors music but can’t understand the point of this. He’s quoted referring to the OP-1s limitations which misses the point of doing something like this completely as well as being inaccurate IMHO. How many synths are as self contained?

There is much more exciting music in this forum by some margin. Has there been a week long battle?

Yeah agreed, seems like a pointless record getting undeserved attention etc. I didn’t listen to all of it but it just seemed like a collection of loops/ideas that had taken about half an hour each to put together. Really uninspiring stuff. Maybe there’s some better stuff in there that I missed but from what I heard it was just ‘meh’. I dig some horrors stuff too, I remember getting totally blown away by the end section of ‘a sea within a sea’…

I think it kinda gives the OP-1 a bad name and doesn't even show what rich sounds can come from it. It kinda sounds like he doesn't know how to use it.

If only we had the opportunity to spend 8 hours a day for 7 days with the OP…without work commitments etc

To be fair it sounds like these are his first op-1 sessions. At least that’s what he says and this stuff sounds like abandoned ideas from my first couple of op tapes. I’m sure he’s gotten more savvy with it since. Just confused why he would think it strong enough material to put out. It’s like saying ‘this basically isn’t very good but I did it in a week on new gear with different limitations than I’m used to, so that makes it better…’… But it doesn’t really…

Liima (ex Efterklang members) use one on stage, as well as lots of other cool gear.

Fair enough.

Biga Ranx, donno if he was already spotted, but I think he his rotally in love with the op-1 in this videoclip

Yeah, it definitely looks like the OP-1 is a corner stone of his new style and aesthetics!

Panda bear using OP in this AC live vid. OT + OP is pretty incredible/inspiring small footprint setup… Only thing missing for me with that combo is polyphonic sample with timestrech… Main reason I’ve held on to my microsmapler.

Great set. Although the guitar is so high I was scared it was going to slam him in the chin at times.
