Battle 27

I used nitro, cwo, delay, and some MD kit, thanks @yoof. Also Digital was used to create the drone.
[ @yoof or whomever assembles the battles soundcloud set, should you happen to get a spare second, it’d be appreciated if you DL this particular one to replace the other, so that i may delete the other one. I figured out a work around for the art work, but not without a simple edit. I had to re-upload…thanks!]

The original Fairuz song that i sampled can be heard here.

And my submission over here:

I’m working on my submission, it will be my first battle entry.

@yoof That song… Her voice… Brings tear to my soul.

Welcome @mguniverse !
Man this is great. I guess this will be the closest i’ll ever come to winning a battle, by being the only submission for a week, lol

Here is mine!

Made mainly with the @cuckoo Dr Wave presets Tristair and Bass Buzzer, thanks Cuckoo.
Effects are Delay, Spring and Nitro. Traps drum set. And a little bit of microphone for the scratch effect (which could be better I guess… working on it!).
Fairuz song I used is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFX0oHt3NFY&spfreload=10

and here’s my song :

@adrigax Nice! Cool to hear my presets in use. I immediately recognized them  I liked especially when you got both the sampled part and the drwave stuff going simultaneously.

@adrigax This is my favorite one so far.

Here’s my track.

Fairuz sampled. can’t remember which bits I used from which video, because I grabbed screenshots of those that I found interesting as I was browsing becoming familiar with her work (which is ace), and also took grabs when I actually sampled into the OP-1. (could be from any one of roughly 11 different clips).

MDTAPE & Traps both used exclusively for drums.

Nitro, Delay & Punch used.

no other synth engines used.

all processed directly on device. shit’s crazy.

looks like something went wrong in the copy/paste...

https://soundcloud.com/dj_kln/widen-the-gap

I never would of thought of that grabbing methology. Sound ace mayne.

yeah, i was grabbing screenshots on my phone on my commute and what not…thinking it would help me retrace my steps and sample from this clip or that…and then also grabbing when actually sampling into the OP…

now i just have a bunch of screen shots from those videos, but can’t remember which ones were actually sampled vs which ones were inspiring or sample-able. d-oh.

I was referring to the way you were grabbing samples from different videos. It’s like sample something to tape, set loop and playback while you sample or audition something else. That’s a fast way of knowing what different sources would mesh well. That’s brilliant, or maybe obvious to some, but thanks for sharing your process!

yeah. like DJ’ing…previewing one track on your headphones, before dropping it in the mix. great way to make sure things sound good together in a mix and are in key…or detuned accordingly.

fairuz had so much material too. so it took a lot of looping and listening…sometimes over just the drum track, and sometimes over the whole mix.

I used chorus samples from her voice mostly, some bass with percussion, stringsamples and the Ud (don't know if that's an Ud, some mandoline like instrument)

Then I used Delay (a lot), eg and CWO as master effect, gave it i a subtle swampy pitchdown feeling.

String engine for Rhodes like chords, DNA, Dr. Wave for second bass (sub), Cluster for the weird solo, Digital for the eary chords in the beginning, I probably forgot sth...

The beat basis is Traps additional percussion from Yoof's MD set with dublike delay.

Nice battle, I have to listen to the other sounds now!

I’m smiling ear to ear listening to this @mixrasta

I got lost discovering my brand new Octa, so I haven't finished my track, that's a pity.
I had so much fun listening to many song of Fairuz, and reuse the samples of violins or oud... I guess I'll end this on the Octatrack :D

So : thanks @yoof for the discovery of the ancient art of Fairuz :)

@dj_KLN, there's much fun in your track, I don't get what exactly makes me smile... Some sounds are really great !
I'm a bit confused with the overall construction, though.

@mguniverse, I really like the vibrato on the string engine, I'll reuse this !!

@adrigax : perfect song for a good old video game :D
Rick Dangerous in Egypt, or something...
You managed to use the violins in Fairuz songs to add essential groove in the song !
THIS is really something !

@Blipsford_Baubie : HOLY CWO, this is serious !! Really intense in the beginning, I feel like the tension falls a bit in the middle.
But really, nice use of Fairuz's voice ! And what an intro !
@mixrasta, you rule :)
What a groove, very nice arrangement of strings and oud, here as well.
I can listen to you track again and again, it's well constructed.

Well, it's going to be rather hard to vote for this one !!!

Well said @LyingDalai, some fantastic tunes here. I’ll wrap it up today, so any last entries, get them in!

Thanks @lyingdalai . I totally get what you’re saying. I was trying to be progressive but couldn’t find my way back to point A.

Look what just arrived in the post
