@calicaux that is correct
@sammyjams sick! That's some tasty chillwave, nu disco beats.
such a sweet groove, absolutely nailed the drums. I hope I can eventually make music like this with my OP.
Hey guys, here is my entry for the 31st battle. Vocals are sampled from Ian Pooley’s speech on Slices Tech Talk. Enjoy!

Here’s my entry.

Hey everyone, new here!
hello operator aka Ceefax
EDIT:
Ok so I tried to edit my lengthy post and ended up messing it up. Here it is again in brief.
I knew I wasn't going to use the telephone effect, so I went with a telephone narrative, in order to stay stay on theme.
The bass & drum sample was lifted from a Dusty Fingers compilation, roughly looped in the tape sequencer and thickened through Cwo.
The opening telephone ring (and voice) was sampled from the Batman cartoon and a Cwo sweep was used for Doppler shift on the phone ring.
The piano/harp sound is the string engine using Cwo as delay/reverb (delay 53, sideband 0, freq low, feedback 0-6)
The guitar-like strum (after second bass note) is the string engine, using Cwo as a Leslie rotary effect (similar settings to above with no delay, possibly some sideband - can't remember)
Beep/boop sounds = Loud, short transient feeding back infinitely in cwo -> punch filter self oscillating -> sampled to tape -> tape sped up -> sampled into sampler -> played through Cwo... CWO-CEPTION!
70's sounding pitch bend synth = digital engine + Cwo
The cuts were jammed live on Operator. The samples came from a video on youtube about Direct Distance Dialing. It was sampled and chopped in the drum sampler and some of the hits were duplicated and reversed, re-pitched and tweaked. I also set up an LFO that was toggled on some hits.
Listening back to my snippets, I didn't even use the most authentic sounding cuts - but the whole thing was completed in an evening and I was tired before I even started.
Perhaps that's why I EQ'd really strangely again. My PC is still going bonkers, so I can't use my monitors (via my ADAC) without hearing the digital scream of a million frenzied transistors trying to escape the n'th region of data hell. Instead I plugged my crappy (free) Dell speakers into OP1, but I don't know why I didn't just plug OP1 into my scratch mixer and then into the monitors; you live and learn...
Anyway, soon I'll sell my Elektron A4 and put the proceeds towards a Mac. Unfortunately that will mean buying a new ADAC though, as Propellerhead Balance isn't USB3 compatible. Ah the joys of modern technology!
Thanks to @Servando for choosing the rule-set. I had a ton of fun exploring CWO and as a result I've found my new favourite effect/sound sculpting/re-synthesis tool.
@ceefax awesome track man! And very cool description of your process

Thanks sammy, that’s greatly appreciated! I’ve been through most of your jams in the tracks thread and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of ‘em. Seems like Sammy’s jammy jam factory has done it again. Really digging those neo-80’s vibes you’ve got going on. Cwo clearly works really well for your style - I can see why you’re a big fan of using it.
Damn, everyone is bringing game. Looks like we’ve got yet another scorcher of a battle coming on!
Keep on operatin’ yo!
PS @djabrail Loving 1984 Authentik as fuck!
PPS @Overseas_Territory I just noticed your entry wasn’t embedded for me but I hopped over to the cloud and had a listen. I really like the way those sonic textures wash in over the keys and that the whole thing is so eminently cwo-ish.
I went with a breakbeat sort of style, based on the general vibe of the super awesome entries so far. The opening sample is provided by my 4-year-old niece, for which she also customized the CWO settings. She very much likes to “watch the cow eat the music”.
H!. It took me looooong this time… some sounds coming from Puredata .

@ceefax Thanks yeah I dont understand why it didn’t embed the song this time, oh well. That was a great groove you have in your track
Just checked in to say that I finally found a nice application for Phone (thanks for forcing me to use it @Servando).
Hey everyone, new here!I have had this 'track' on my tape for a few days, and I added a CWO section to the middle, it's nothing great but I figured I'd contribute!https://soundcloud.com/jakealstad/first-op-1-jam
Sweet! I Really like the way you use CWO to make builds and dynamics in the mix. Cool!
Well here goes my entry. This battle was easy, I use those 2 effects ALL the time!

Sweet as usual! Im so impressed in the way you manage to program your drums. Always swingy, punchy and warm. Would love to see a tutorial on how you make your drums.

I used everything. That was my self-imposed goal. CWO or Phone on every track, CWO on master. The result is messy and somewhat muffled, but I got tired of re-recording it. (I mean the last step, when putting stuff to tape.) Warning: I had to re-compress it on my PC, because I deleted tapes right after downloading and it was extremely quiet. (I need to do a better job at setting my reference volume.) If that disqualifies the entry, so be it.
CWO is self-evidently awesome and can produce a variety of effects from phaser, to delay, weird reverb, metallization, and Effects That Have No Name. Its only issue is that it muffles the sound quite a bit.
I had more problems with Phone. Most of its settings seem to produce fart noises and it looked a bit one-dimensional. Before this battle I though it’s almost useless, especially outside of master slot. But, apparently, it has some interesting tricks up its sleeve. It’s possible to tune it to resonant frequencies to “double” the sound. (Which several people spoke about, but I did not thin of turning red knob to 50 instead of 99 to get both voices.) And when you tune it to be one octave lower than the synth, it can work as a kind of self-playing bass line. Works really well with CWO on master. Tying blue knob (frequency) to envelope can also do some cool stuff.
Or maybe…
[The rest of the message was moved to Scraps Thread to avoid confusion.]
here goes.
HI @Yoof @Overseas_Territory and others :), I don’t know how to do the voting system and to put all the tracks together in the soundcloud account… Who does that usually?. I’m really looking forward to hear all the tracks again and do a focused listening ; ).
Should we wait 1 day more in case someone is still finishing a track? Thank you all for the participation!.
