Opus 5.5 medium, no blocks so far. Just included a small feature to display a random Oblique Strategies card when pressing shift + orange encoder press:
one caveat i’ve run across is if you save a preset with an effect or instrument that any future or former firmware doesn’t “understand” you will crash at boot and the only resolution i’ve tested is a factory reset.
i learned this by saving a preset on a firmware containing my own creation, then flashing stock 246 back to the op1 and it would not boot without a crash. holding com at boot and doing a factory reset solved it though. — this is probably worth noting if a “community” modular type firmware ever comes to existence
i have not tested, but i imagine it will work — delete any presets you saved before flashing a firmware that does not contain the additional effect/instruments that were available when you saved the preset
I got this patched on my fw: if there is unknown instrument, it will use iter as a fallback instead of crashing. When reverting to stock a reset is required of course.
turns out sounds save effects and engines by name, not by id, so the names are what has to stay unique. ids only matter once mods run together in one build (modular builds, plugins later).
Holy crap! Amazed to see all the new activity here, 10 years after it began
Warms my heart, been testing the @popcorp firmware and loving it so far.
A system for combining mods from different people into the same firmware would be the ultimate game changer
do you think we can enable the '“new” tape screen? that looks so futuristic it would somehow lift this whole thing to the new level of OG1 action and shiiit much luv
@wavi hellyeah that’s exactly my plan! i’m building a small core that mods plug into, so stuff from different people can run in one firmware without clashing. still working on it, but the first step is up… the id list i posted above.
and @RoutineDiscount already added the oblique strategies mod to it, big thanks!
have been skeptical for the first sec but looks quiet solid, the lil stuff crammed into the corners and the interesting stuff is zoomed, I would be cool with it.
have you heard of any firmware that does something like saving sequencer data somehow? that was the 1 feature on the OG or Field that i always missed!!
thank you so much for putting that into the OP1 just for it to be there and if you really get stuck and don’t know why this will help escape that circle simply by disrupting it so elegantly that the moment you think that’s a bit cringy, the card already did its magic
dots step sequencer (pick it in the sequencer list), for synth and drums
6 slots playing at the same time, each up to 64 steps (4 rows of 16 dots); a step is empty (grey) or a trigger (green) with its own note and level
blue moves the cursor, Shift + white selects the slot, red starts / stops the slot, Shift + red (or Shift + C#) starts / stops all slots
REC switches recording on / off, press red chooses the type: REC (step: a note key puts a trigger at the cursor and moves on) or LIVE (while the slot runs, keys are recorded at the playhead, quantised, with the gate taken from how long the key is held; while stopped LIVE records at the cursor). Keys always sound
while recording: red sets the level of the trigger, Shift + blue erases while moving, green changes the length, Shift + greenextends to the next full row and copies the row above
per-trigger parameters (white; press white to choose the parameter): gate (or tie), ratchet 1–8, chance, condition (play in loop a of b), nudge (±1/2 step), ratchet level ramp
FX parameter locks: FX1–FX4 in the same list set knob 1–4 (blue … red) of the instrument’s FX for that step (-- = off, the default, or 0–100 %); the knob returns to its own setting after the step’s gate (TIE: at the slot’s next trigger). Press blue while recording to put a lock trigger (no note, hollow square) on an empty step, again to remove it; a key on it adds a note
mutes (Shift + G A B C D E, D# all), 4 patterns (Shift + F G A B), lift / drop / scissors copy / paste / cut the slot (Shift: whole pattern), all saved
Just a note on governance, I think a canonical registry is critical to avoid chaos down the road. GitHub - LizardMan245/op1-mod-registry: Which names and numbers each mod for the original OP-1 (firmware 246) adds, so mods and their sounds don't clash. · GitHub looks like a good approach right now. Just mentioning this since I registered Oblique Strategies there with Shift + Orange encoder press, but it got merged with Shift + Help Bubble by @popcorp - Either way is fine with me, but centrally registering this would avoid clashes down the road… or maybe we need a configurator app on top that highlights any clashes before repacking and the user can choose how to resolve them.
