Hey, that’s really cool. Is it possible create designs with it and share them for yet undefined purpose? I’m not building synths or effects, but graphic ideas that could be shared and used. Would this make sense?
You can relatively easily unpack the firmware with op1repacker to get all the original files. It requires Python and a command line but it’s not that hard ![]()
EDIT: I seem to remember there’s a file somewhere in the graphics containing the OG-1 font as SVG (opfont.svg).
The docs in the design kit cover that too:
https://squarewave-studio.github.io/op1-design-kit/fonts.html#find-your-stock-font
Awesome, that’s super nice! ![]()
Is there any more info on og1’s opz mode?? what it does or how to get to it?
I’m running into an issue with @Hundekraft 3.2
The sampler+ has a filter on the envelope page(white+press), but it’s uncontrollable. There’s no control over cutoff and resonance.
Manual says shift plus encoder, but that brings me to the voicing menu as per usual on OP-1.
One more idea. Would it be possible to link Tracks 1&2 on the tape and Tracks 3&4, so you effectively have two stereo tracks. It is already possible to record stereo audii but you currently have to record the left and right side independently.
Any fun Beatles style tape effects would also be amazing. Tape flanging etc.
this would be fire!!! maybe make it a stem player that can cancel out say drums or vocals etc haha
@popcorp yep, on both ends. on the op-1 my core times each plugin’s audio work every block and keeps its worst block since the start, so i can read the peak over usb, not just the average the mods list shows. every build runs in my emulator first, which counts cycles with the cache misses included, so i can script the worst case (all voices + fx on) and profile where the time goes. the two line up pretty close btw, my dx engine’s worst block was 84k cycles in the emulator and 93k read off my op-1. i haven’t tried the octatrack mod yet, how does it show the spikes there?
Yes, performance is the issue I’m having right now and I must look at how this is being measured here. On vanilla 246 GIN works great, but on some of the CFWs I’m getting issues. Still working through this, but I assume it’s all the other stuff running too, MIDI, wrappers and monitors, etc.
Any chance of making the key public? I think it would greatly improve the speed and likelihood of getting an awesome CFW working on the OP-1f.
Not gonna happen. TE will have a field*tm day and sue the fuck out of the user.
octabam somehow does synthetic tests on host and computes worst-case scenario. I don’t understand the details but it is a valuable metric. I would love to have this in op1r-src as a test script that would do the measurement and then flag unsafe combinations.
yeah and the cache misses… they always kill the CPU. Hate them.
@popcorp while you’re here. Are there any plans on your end to add Maiko’s fx and scale mode to OP1R? I think your and Maiko’s work combined would suit all my OP-1 needs.
This is another area I’d love to see more collaboration on, testing. Seems at the moment a lot of us are using the op1emu and various other approaches to testing on host and emulator. A standard framework for this would enable more consistency and automated testing within CI pipelines too.
Would love feedback from users about this. I’ve the Tape Library and Styles featurebuilt and I’m doing compatibility and performance testing against the various custom firmwares.
Users can save as many tape archives as they have room for on disk. All of these are available too via USB.
It supports 5 main tape styles and they can be switched on the fly too for current tapes. The user can choose the strength of the effect too.
I’ve redesigned the main tape screen to match too. There are 5 tape styles:
- Studio (standard)
- Classic
- Cassette
- Disk mini
- Vinyl

I’ll upload a YT video soon.
Does this all look good? Anything else you’d like to see?
Looks great! Maybe a good approach would be to first start with a public release of one of the tape variants, squash all bugs and errors user reports. And then slowly build out to the full set of tapes.
I can do that only once Maiko’s code is released AND only if it is released under GPL v3 compatible license (which it should, since it uses parts of op1r…)
Scale mode will be in soon.. not a big deal to implement it
