Field mic problem

My op-1 field mic stopped rcording properly, u cant really hear any loudness to it, u gotta scream into tje mic and then put ur est on the speaker to hear it… when i test it the red recording levels on tape spike but even when volume is st max the thing doesnt record properly, i got this thing last feb,1st and has been properly taken care of , basically hasnt left my desk and im just bmed out becauze the mic stopped working out of nowhere

Anyone can point out a way to test this mic further? Because its not inaudible but its recording very low volume and comes out clippy and crumchy not usable audio

This is frustrating because it works but the recordings are ass i gotta scrwam ibto the mix to get the most mediocre quality and volume and i just feel this isnt how its supposed to work, i used it before and sitting down on a desk i barely had to lean in for it to pick up the voice or anhthing now its barely audible if i dont put the mic on my lips

can you snap a few photos or a video showing us your settings and process and demo the issue? it sounds like a defective unit that probably needs to be returned/exchanged but lets have a look and see if there isn’t something else at play

I cant attach vids here :frowning: but im almost certain this thing just broke out of nowhere cuz i compared it to some old recordings i did with it and its totally not the same , and im recording with maxxed out settings on the mix level and on the record level in tape mode…. :(( reslly bummed out, im 4 months in and already starting to pump out better sounds and this happens …

Could try rolling back the firmware? I think there are some gain settings at the soft layer…

if you have owned it 4 months and you bought it new in the usa, you are still under the 1yr warranty and can have it replaced free of charge. if you bought it from te webstore directly, just submit a claim on their support portal on their website. te is very good about honoring the warranty for pretty much anything that goes wrong with their devices

You mean doing a factory reset?

Well i bought it in the US yes, but on amazon not their website, and i actually live in costa rica , i bought it cuz i was on a trip because theres no retailers here in costs rica for TE. I sent them an email but idk if ill be able to get it covered w warranty

amazon will honor the warranty as well. you can reach out to them also.

No they wont because they give like 2 week guarantee…. And it already expired :-/ at this point im just gonna look for a repair shop any ideas if theres any official repairshop… i wonder where i can buy the mic…

Like… i bought it on january 16 got it ln the 26 and the return window was literally feb 1

you should have a 1 year warranty that is legally bound

When i go to the app and check the order all they donis redirect me to TE support links…

i would reach out to te support then. maybe its set up so that they honor the warranty directly.

Yeah i hope so , i found a pge on the TE website that says that they either help replace under warranty or help you contact a trusted repair shop at a cost, im still just seething at the fact that ill be without it for a while if i get it fixed or changed. Thanks a lot for the help

Worth a try - can’t see any downside to it. I have 3 cm15’s haven’t ever had this issue personally but I could see it happening given the gain switching and soft layer

Its the onboard mic on the op-1 not the CM-15

Facepalm my bad clearly I didn’t have enough coffee

I’m sure you’ve already looked at this but what about the gain settings on the mic? What do you have that set at?
