Hocus Pocus: Teenage Engineering mysterious new product

Well let’s see in details in a few minutes… Usually they release their stuff around 3PM.
Sorry again T.E for spoiling the magic, but you were more cautious this time

Could be a good surprise thought

I wonder how many people will insta-buy at that price level…

It’s also live on the official website now, but the “explore” button doesn’t work …

“support for wireless audio with OP-Z coming soon”

Looks possibly awesome but too pricey for me to impulse buy right now.

Anyone understand the disk modes? I don`t get it.

I think its a good platform to develop. Looking forward to see whats coming in the next months. But for now i think i will wait a few months. The OP-Z thing is the most interesting for me right now. Maybe we will see it linked to an app, maybe the one for the OP-Z.

Didn’t see this written anywhere. Maybe I missed it.

Yeah, I’m keen to see some examples for sure. If the time stretching, looping and possibly take tricks style abilities exist then I’m very interested. But can’t see it being so much better than the op-1 for that.

The OP-1 doesn’t really have time stretching (although it can sort of be accomplished with an lfo-trick) rigth? I guess this radio can be a cool and useful thing for sampling in that sense, but you could say the same thing about a number of apps and stuff.

Then again, I guess that’s not really where the beauty of this machine will lie, but we’ll probably have to wait for some product demos on YT until it becomes clear what this machine really can do. Six years of TE development usually pays off quite well. Let’s hope Cuckoo or one of those synth guys gives us a demo soon!

I wonder how bad the latency will be when trying to play live.

But, let me write down a crazy thought I just had:

For the price of this speaker, it would be totally possible that the whole OP-Z DSP hardware is embedded in the OB-4 … When streaming from your OP-Z, the whole sound processing would then be done in the speaker and only sync and controller data would be transferred via Bluetooth, which would make things playable in almost latency-free realtime :joy: scnr

Except that it isn’t… there is no Blackfin processor inside that thing.

I impulse ordered one. If anyone is having problems with placing an order, try using Paypal as a checkout option. I got an error each time I tried to pay with a card, but after I selected Paypal it finally processed.

Looks like the guesses about an internet-based live jamming device were dead wrong. Also ambient/metronome/karma isn’t a riddle those are just random words : /

For the disk mode stuff, this article https://www.engadget.com/teenage-engineering-ob4-wireless-speaker-130000431.html mentions a synth engine processing incoming audio and
the possibility of new modes with AI-based synthesis.

The features do look super cool…and I have been looking for a speaker/amp solution and saving up for a purchase…but $600 though, goddamn. It is easier to stomach if I think about it as a loud, portable, wireless, playable tape machine (like a Nagra from the future) as that is something that I would use and I love how tape works on the OP-1…but $600…I am about 51/49 on cancelling my order and getting a THR for half the price.

The audio and tape features on this thing better SLAP! Throwing my faith in TE because I do think the OP-Z and OP-1 are magical.

it’s SOLD OUT

Well, at least someone found this thing to be exciting.

Hold up, does this only have line in and audio goes out the speakers? Does anyone see a way for the audio on this to be recorded to an OP-1?

At least in the specifications, no output is mentioned:

That makes me more excited that the OP-Z will be getting an upgrade! Not at all interested in the OB-4 since the IKEA one they did is pretty damn good for a much lower price.
