KDJ-ONE vs. OP-1

Right. If they had any integrity at ALL, they’d list a few things they DONT have, that OP-1 does. Five sequencer models? Nope. Seven synth engines? Nah. Accelerometer? Uh uh. Solid metal chassis? Errr… No slowdowns or hiccups? FM radio sampling?

Regrettable. 3 years delay, those backers must be in despair or completely forgot about it by now. I don’t see this ending well.

I’m reminded of the Pandora: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandora_(console)
A linux based micro PC/Gaming device that was crowdfunded and delayed 2 years. I remember a lot of complaining about progress back then, I guess they could be considered lucky in hindsight for a relatively short 2 year wait in comparison…

What happens if a kickstarter completely blows it? Do they get their money back? Its why im extremely weary of some of these things when it involves complex boutique electronics. Hope it ends well though i’d really like to play around with one if they ever successfully come into existance.

Edit: I just noticed, the KDJ-ONE is a Japanese project. 0.0
There seems to be a lot of chattering going in but it’s in Japanese if anyone is able to translate
The general concensus of what our Anime addicted friends are discussing about the product. I would
They are complaining but maybe they are getting more information.

With the MPC Live a month away, I just don’t see how any other “portable DAW” is going to have any relevance. They’ve really covered all the bases with this one, I believe.

Here's another one that looks interesting:

Looks a bit bulky to me. I still feel the best option if you're gonna be dual wielding is the OP-1 + Ipad combo -At least until we see exactly what the OP-Z is capable of.

It's good to know your options though. If you scroll down near the bottom, The $239 GoDJ Lite, that looks like something I could actually use and is actually streamline enough to be practical.

@JohnSmith - i got one of them as they shipped out the GODJ Lite version late 2016 / early 2017, and it’s OK.

a fun novelty…like an iPod touch on DJ crack, and it’s super-cool for certain effects, or to have auto-dj for tracks that it’s also can figure out auto-bpm (although i’ve had moderate success with that feature, based on too wide of variable playlists).

i’m not sad about getting it…since was equal the price of my Volca Sample (being an early backer). i haven’t invested enough time to try to master it but it’s been a fun travel / commute music player…but it will never, ever replace 2 turntables a mixer and vinyl (even Serato or Traktor digital vinyl emulation).

maybe the PRO will be better…it sounds like from their “backer” mailing list, shipping is coming any moment.

KDJ-One might be a lost cause. anyone holding out hope, or expecting greatness might be like, that ship sailed…

…and OP-1 killer, it will never be, even if it exceeds expectations after they pull one out.

you can pry my OP-1 out of from my cold dead fingers and simultaneously connected earphones on blast.

^More schlock. This one looks intriguing. Maybe we need a separate post for all the random boutique midi controllers coming out,

^I remember being interested in this one a few years ago. No idea what it does or how to play it, would probably be hopelessly lost to ever use it but it’d be a neat prop to wear on your back during a show.

I try not to outright dismiss anything anymore no matter how situational it may look at first. There was a time the OP-1 was thought of as cheap overpriced trash and now it’s considered a modern classic so you can never really tell whats gonna become a thing.

^This is a rather amusing coincidence, apparently the KDJ-ONE has been handed over to the GODJ team for mass production. Stuff is actually happening, it could actually be made. =0

Wow, would be cool to see the KDJ-ONE actually get release – mostly to see if it works and also so people don’t get screwed over. I’ll hold out for the KDJ-TWO though with all the features missing from KDJ-ONE included plus all the features missing in OP-1

@JohnSmith - i actually saw that news about kdj-one just after i posted that. ha.

i was being purposefully cynical about it, since the hype was so big for a moment which seems like 2 or 3 years ago now. hope they do well with it.

I keep reading it as “GOD DJ”.
