@sjdude - i have a Stylophone 2, and am very pleased with the rich and deep sounds that it generates. i used it for my "battle 28 - analog" entry. the warm bass sounds it creates were great OP-1 food.
i bought it direct, and it eventually made it's way to my door.
i saw the Cuckoo Kraftwerk cover after my purchase, and was even that much more excited as i waited for delivery.
takes a minute to get used to it not having and glyphs on the device really for many of the functions, and obviously no saving of presets...but that is fine if you are just sampling (which is what i do mostly with it).
i have considering getting the KM QuNexus to control it via CV, but haven't yet, since it looks like it could be a bit more fun to "play" using that, if you were looking for something in more of a live setting.
@kln, thanks for the detailed reply. I’ve taken to liking small gear because we live in a small house and have a couple of kids and a dog. I do have one piece of larger gear, an original Univox Mini-Korg 700. I’ve lent it to friends to sample. Still sounds phat! I know I will end up owning a Stylophone 2 at some point. Thanks again for your reply!! Cheers
It sure is, I think it will become sought after in the future because it sounds very nice (in a lo-fi SP1200 way) I just wish it had a bit more memory and polyphony.
Yeah, I love the crunch it gives to samples, especially snares. Plus its size and the way it’s laid out, you can play it like some sort of an electronic kalimba in a live situation. You’re right, though, memory and polyphony are really limited.
About monotribes and Japan. They went on blowout a little over a year ago. At one point they were going for about 120. And I kept putting it off.
One day, I looked and they were just gone. They are very hard to find second hand here now.
I love my monotribe, but, funnily enough, last night was the first time I ever used it on an actual track I recorded. BECAUSE, it was the first time I found something really useful to do with it. I’ve always had the intention of modding it out with a proper keyboard and a breakout board for the drums, but just never got around to it, despite having all the needed hardware bits.
Very interested in Peter Blasser’s new instrument. I Always wanted a plumbutter but i couldn’t justify the price. I had a shnth but i sold it. I hate programming on a computer. That’s why i passed up on the patchblocks…
Thanks @Calicaux for starting this fun thread! Here is my mini synth collection:
Casio VL-Tone VL-1 (had this since elementary school)
Stylophone S1
Stylophone Beatbox
Korg Kaossilator
Bleep Labs Nebulophone (really fun, and a bit unruly)
Mixtape Alpha (cool little cassette tape shaped and sized synth, came in a cassette case)
Volca Beats
Volca Bass
Volca Keys
Op-1
I have moved house (internationally) several times in the last few years, which really forces you to examine how much stuff you’re hoarding. I’ve tried to pare it down to stuff I either can’t do without, or have a deep attachment to. OP-1, Octatrack and DMG1 are at the top of that list. Then maybe the OTO Biscuit.
I’m eyeing up a Volca Sample though. I think that thing has a lot of potential for people with big collections of sound source toys.
I haven't found anyone who sells the Stylophone II in the US. I'm certain I could find them if I looked but none of the major music retailers seem to have them.
I have one and love it. Fat sounds. Crazy thing is that I found it at a pawn shop in Michigan!
