I agree the amount of vocal samples in the first section should have been kept minimal, unfortunately I recorded everything via Overbridge as a 2 channel mix so I can’t remove them. :frowning:

As far as mixing, I had OP-1 and A4 running into a mixer then into Rytm for some compression and to record. Then I recorded the mix onto my Fostex 8 track reel to reel, running it a bit hot to get some saturation. I think this really cleaned up the lower frequencies and glued everything nicely.

Your comment about the artwork made me laugh! The vocal samples from the drop onwards are taken from a video where a kid has just come out of some operation, still quite sedated he rambles about having a great time in Dubai.

I would be honoured if you played it out in Japan! I’ll send the track in a private message :smiley:

This is great. I’m keen to get involved. Depending on my tendency towards over commitment, I may not actually become active on this, by wanted to jump in and share some encouragement to y’all. Ie. Real, organic community. Kudos.

Here are few songs that I made recently. They were recorded in ableton with a handful of plugins.

|| M U S I C L I N K ||
  • Both songs use the OP-1 for drums and effects processing
  • Big Ag uses Dr. Wave when the synths come in on the final verse
  • Hiway Tree uses the digital synth with an LFO from envelope to green (secondary oscillator octave) parameter to get a "sparkling" effect
Other instruments & gear: guitar, bass, cheap casio, carbon-disc mic, scarlett 2i2 audio interface
I really like the OP-1's finger drum sequencer for it's ability to easily mash together un-intuitive sequences.
I also like to make use of the tape's adjustable speed to re-pitch sequences and play with the effective length of the sequences.

I really dig big ag and I like the drums near the end and how things come to a close. I really like how the second song started but i wish it would have had more drum stuff to it still a great song!

I just bought an op1 and I’ve had about a month to mess with it and I’m loving how my music has changed quite a bit from using this little device! In the future I plan to release a full OP1 only album and I would love some feedback on anything really.

kind of a dance track

Hey there fella!
Thanks a bunch for your warming response @aswefallintostatic. My jaw dropped when I read it!
The workflow bean with frustration. I took a short break got some fresh air and returned to my audio canvas. Carved the lead sound from my System 1m and everything unfolded from there. I love 4x4 UK Garage (although I am no DJ Narrows lol) so I naturally gravitate to that kind of drum rhythm and tempo. The vowel sound was made via the System 1m’s vowel wave form. I recorded loops into Logic and worked on the arrangement at the same time. I need to employ that same tactic again actually, thank you for reminding me about it.

All instruments went through my MX-1. Drums are from my TR-8. The percussion instruments are bussed to the USB slot and the BD and HC have there own channel. I use the EQ-20 after a BOSS HM-3 pedal for the BD. The note bleeps are from my JP-08 which is ran through a BOSS SC300, a BOSS DE200, AMPEG SCR-DI, and finally into the RE-20 before hitting the MX-1. The bass came from my Minitaur (sold recently to fund a System 1) which was pushed with a ProCo RAT2 pedal. I used my Op-1 for sound fx - I love it for that!

I used some other effects in Logic for mixing and mastering. I’d like to stay out of the box as much as possible but the lure of some of my plugins and the sound they give me are great.

It’s gotten a bit of interest from DJ’s. One guy replied to me and said have I ever thought about changing my name as he would never read out His Most Darxxxellent live on the radio.

It’s up for free download now :slight_smile:

@JohnnyEgo
+1 for the voodooing dark mood kept alive by the lil bells
-1 the detuned synth at the end, but this part of the voodoo probably scares me :smiley:

@HisMostDarxxxellent
+1 I could listen this kind of songs for hours, very relaxing
-1 miss a little crazy something in the middle

Hi!

This is the first time I post on this forum. You guys made me pull the trigger on this amazing synth. So thank you sincerely. I mainly use it to compose while travelling, since I’m all day running around and have a lot of spare half hours.

https://soundcloud.com/javierdepascual/church-of-now-demo

This track is the first attempt to make an specific project I’ve been thinking about since before buying this synth, about how blues and electronic music are very close relatives even if they come from two different centuries.

I want to make an EP trying to go the delta blues route, making gritty, raw, unsequenced music using only the OP-1. Since I’m not proficient on music production, I’m also using this to keep learning and improving, so any kind of feedback would be great.

Peace and salutations one and all!

It’s nice to see so many people searching for feedback on their musical creations. It’s always exciting when you write some final automation adjustments, or finish your check on the fourth set of loudspeakers, or just get genuilinely excited about your hard work and progress.

The reason we post our tracks on the web is because we want to share this excitement with others. Sometimes our excitement can haze our view, sometimes our eagerness puts limitations on sonic exploration, maybe another set of ears and a different opinion would help, maybe some suggestions will help encourage you to question yourself and the decisions you made on a track; and that’s why this thread is here. :slight_smile:

It’s so cool to read other people’s opinions and views on something you made so please give that a thought when you post. Have you got the time to give some thoughtful feedback for other people? If you have, then show it!
Please refer to the first thread for all the fabulous details and nuances you need to know!

Shalom

@Javierdepascual Wow, great idea, sounds sooo awesome! One thing I noticed was that the vibrato in the vocal sample is looped, and you can here it repeat which makes it sound less organic. You may have been going for this though. If not a work around could be to sing a higher note and then pitch it down so it lasts longer and doesn’t need to loop, but not very necessary, this is such a great little experimental track!!! Really good work! Love the minimalism!! @JohnnyEgo, cool track, trippy and pretty chill. Imo the second half is a lot stronger than the first, that synth at the beginning seems too high to me and the melodies seem a bit repetitive or simplistic and sort of distract from the vibes the rest of the song gives, but second half is totally awesome!!! I think it sounds best when the synth in the lower octave is playing. But those are just my thoughts.

Thank you @Gabriel! I’m glad you liked it. Yeah, I found the vibrato loop was getting annoying after a while. Will try what you said just to experiment and try different stuff! :slight_smile:

Hi guys, just wanted to share an Op-1 track. Everything done on OP-1, mixing mastering recorded to album and uploaded to Soundcloud.

Its a pretty ambient piece. Not too much going on, but i think its got a nice vibe.

Id love any feedback, likes or dislikes.

@lescour, sounding nice! what did you use to make the noise / vinyl crackle sounds? The last click at the end of the track was a bit stressful on my system! Was that a compositional choice or something to do with the exporting process?

Hello OP1 PEEPS!

I am looking for feedback on my latest track. It’s a melodic electronic number. Tell me what you think.

Hello! Thanks for posting @javierdepascual. What was your inspiration behind this?

It was an interesting piece. I think you got the samples and sound design right. That wooden clacker is a typical sound found in the temples here in Japan. Fitting for the song title!
It was a short piece and it ended a bit abruptly and with a new noise. I would’ve ended the same way it started. I would’ve also shifted the layers and moved them forward. I think it would have added extra flavour and interest, but that’s just a personal choice. The track sounded like a statement of dedication. I pictured monks in a dark and cold temple in the small hours up a Chinese mountain. Apart from the smell, it was hard to tell the difference between the mist and the incense which, not trying to be a clever dick here, it was a bit like some of the sounds. Some frequencies were masked and the bass could be cleaned up. I think the sounds would’ve all benefitted from eq.

Great piece for experimentation and the important thing is getting an idea down and printing it. Big thumbs up for that!

Peace

Hey guys, just wanted to add a little something from myself on here after listening to other peoples great Soundcloud tunes.....a weird, glitchy ambient type of affair using some synths from Circuit / OP1 and performed live on Octatrack.
Id love to get any feedback, followers, reposts, positive or negative, all welcome.
Keep up the great work guys....
