OG-1 Constant Clicks When Recording With New Firmware

I don’t think we should speculate too much as too what the cause is. It is likely to confuse matters.

If you have the same problem as me; Useless click filled external recordings in the two firmwares since the introduction of USB audio.

You need to get a proper support ticket with TE and tell them “Clicks in external recordings. Nothing to do with looping.”

It only happens in the last two firmwares so it is definitely something fixable but they won’t bother fixing it unless there are enough people referring to this specific problem. If you get into specifics of the cause you will lose their attention immediately.

Clicks on loops are a crossfade issue that was there at the start.
The problem I’m having was introduced along with USB audio in the last two firmwares.
If I just record from the external input there are lots of clicks on the recording.

Format device → Install #242 → Factory reset → Record → Sometimes a click or two.

Format device → Install #243 or #245 → Factory reset → Record → A couple of clicks every couple of seconds.

If you are having this problem too you should get a proper support ticket with TE and say “Clicks in external recordings. Nothing to do with looping.”

This is a new problem that only exists in the last two firmwares (#243 & #245) so it is definitely easy to fix. They just need to know if a decent number of people care or they won’t bother.

This response I got actually says they “hope to fix it”.
This admits there is a specific issue with ADC recording in #245.

I asked about a time frame and they got annoyed.

It may be a good time for anyone who is having this problem to get a proper Technical/Warranty support ticket with TE and say “Clicks in external recordings. Nothing to do with looping.”

The loop crossfade issue has been there since I got my OG-1 almost 10 years ago but has been improved gradually.

The constant clicks on recordings just played straight was introduced in #243 and persists in #245. It is definitely easy to fix.

If I was using my OG-1 a year ago I would’ve noticed this and you/they would’ve had all my annoying messages back then

I’ve just sent another message to them asking for news about the issue, and asking for confirmation that the issue has been recognised from the development team.

From now on I think I’ll start sending a ticket about the issue every week, ideally everybody participating in this topic should do the same, let’s make some noise guys, they can’t ignore us.

TE “and please let us know if we can help you with anything else”

Gilgamesh “what kind of time frame can we expect?”

TE " :triumph: "

so i did multiple passes recording the entire 6 minutes of tape each time
recording external audio sources
usb audio sources
having the usb audio interface hooked up but recording from external input
etc etc basically just trying all different scenarios

haven’t heard one click or pop or anything
i’m on 243

those that are experiencing this what revision is your op1?
i know mine is one of hte early models

I was planning on clearing my tape tonight, I’ll do the same and let you know. I am running #245 on a REV. 2

Did you just record silence, @docshermsticks ?

i did some of everything
i recorded silence. i recorded sound.
i had other tape tracks playing sound while i was recording silence and or sound
i did internal and external sounds simultaneously.
i did internal and external with tape tracks. with usb audio. without usb audio.
i messed around w/ things while it was recording like changing pages, setting up synths, tweaking fx, eq, u name it.
i tried everything i could think of to see if it would affect it positively or negatively
i filled up my entire tape all 4 tracks, 1 track at a time.

I am on REV 2 an i experience clicks.
Yeah this is indeed really interesting to know on which revision the clicks occur.

this morning, it took me 31 attempts to record a four-bar loop from an external synth without any clicks or pops.

it’s like a balloon rubbing exhibition at the national synthetic fabric convention held in a static factory while a thunder storm is approaching.

Mine sounds like a Geiger counter shoved inside a nuclear reactor.

man that really sucks :frowning:
i hope whatever needs to be sorted gets sorted for yall

I installed OS243, did a factory reset and all is good, very good. there is a not a single snap, crackle or pop when recording external synths for three minute plus takes. really happy.

That’s good news, please double check and triple check.
There have been times where I also thought the problem was resolved after a reset, but it wasn’t…

The clicks and mono when recording externally were the main reasons I bought OP-1f - being new to the OP-1 (bought it when USB firmware 243 was current) I just thought that’s how the OP-1 was, since pops and clicks have always been mentioned. But they were previously mentioned with sampler loop points. I haven’t got around to selling my OG yet, it’s still on 243. I’d love an update so the new owner has a great experience. At least it’s possible to downgrade firmware on these machines.

Sample it… it’s a limitation that fuels creativity, you want crackles in your performance don’t you, for that realistic vinyl sound?

People pay good money for that you know

We have this happening on rev 1 and 2 machines.

I have rev 1.
I have constant clicks with nothing plugged in but external analog from phone or modular system.

Could you please make a proper support ticket with TE about “lots of clicks external record with no looping” on #245?

This is happening on rev 1 & 2.

I have rev 1.

Please do a proper support ticket with TE about “clicks while external recording, nothing to do with looping”

They need to know this is affecting people or they will never spend the 1-2 days of engineer time to fix it.
