i believe when you did shift lift before, and then did shift drop later on, if you happened to change your mixer settings in that master mixer thing, your drop would take effect based on the settings at the time of drop NOT at the time of lift.

now i believe when you lift, it takes a little snap shot and remembers them so if you change them in the intervening time between when you drop it will still use the mixer settings at the time of lift

I believe this is correct. Although the mixer is post-tape, you “think” of the levels as tape playback ones. So if you have a little shaker sound quiet and panned to one side a bit, you’d expect if you lifted it and dropped it back later like that for it to sound the same. Not panned center at 100 volume.
