Are we ever going to get any updates in 2025? I realize they are putting a lot of energy into the xy but it feels like they’ve given up in the Field.
There’s still so much they can do.
make a dedicated return monitoring so you can ACTUALLY use this as an audio interface.
allow 8 mono tracks
allow master effects to be an Aux send
I’m not looking for new synths or effects but just a little better updated functionality. Even just a recognition that they Are actually going to update it. I refuse to believe that the updates they’ve given are all that we get. This is such a powerful device and felt like it was incomplete when it was first put out. Just wanted to rant.
I felt like what would have been a smart move for TE would have been to release an update when they reduced prices. A move which ultimately reduced the value of the device. I thought why wouldn’t they want to add some value to it and make many loyal users and.new users excited and broaden the prospects of the device. I am certain that with adding some creative new features people would have gladly paid the original asking price. I can only hope they made money lowering the price and selling units and that some of the revenue helps with continuing development on the op1-field. It’s a fantastic device but it still would benefit from so many improvements such as clock over BLE and sending midi cc’s so whatever external controller you use for midi lfo can be controlled from the 4 pots. Obviously a granular engine or a great chorus or saving sequences per project or whatever would be amazing. I wonder if they lost their main op-1 code guru or something because amazing firmware has been released by TE for the tx-6 and op-xy. They must be different teams but I would like to think the op-1 team would have some desire to keep pace but no such luck. Hopefully soon. I wonder if a replacement device is on the horizon and maybe that’s the reason. Regardless it’s a fantastic device but why not hope it gets even better.
I do not think TE is finished with the op-1f at all. I think they had a lot on their plate with the KO2 and then medieval and then the secret project of the XY (must’ve been at least 3+ years in R and D) and they wanted to get it out…the Ko2 and Op1F both needed an update and look - ko2 update dropped with a bang and totally revitalized the product and made it really what it should’ve been on release…
the op-1f is fairly complete as it is, I mean there are many things I would like added but it’s not in the same boat as the ko2 (Whcih really needed it) and ofc the XY came out with so many flaws and defects that they had to rush to rescue the co-flagship…
the value of the Op1f is the same as it was before (2000), but they just had a sale /special….not only to move some units and regain interest but to gauge where the world sees Op1F, and based on the stock and inventory, it looks like interest is still very high
Again, not to beat a dead horse but they are co-flagships and the XY definitely needed 100% support, while the op1F just would be a great thing to keep getting updates but (and I say this very cautiously) it’s not like it needs it; not the way their other products do
Still, I have a feeling an update will drop very soon; definitely this year …to your OP, yes 2025 we’ll get an update
You’re right that TE definitely addressed issues with the op-xy and the KO2 but they also added completely fresh and unexpected features to the tx-6 and ob-4 so it’s not like all they were doing was focusing on dealing with issues. The common thread was the op1-f was left out of all of these firmware updates. Hopefully that changes soon enough.
Man a lot of y’all’s responses feel like TE trying to intercept and make excuses.
I hear what you guys are saying and to a degree understand. BUT, I don’t buy the notion that just because they have other products that needed updates before the OP-1f that we should “neglect” the base of customers.
I agree that (to an extent) it’s a “complete product” but we also got fed from TE that there would be regular and extensive updates. There really hasn’t been anything resembling this since it came out.
I love the OP-1f but I was expecting more out of TE on this one. For a product that’s been out as long as it has I expected more out of a flagship device. People HAVE been requesting so much for so long and I think we all feel ignored.
i understand what you mean. i hear where you are coming from too. the reason i dont agree entirely is that we have had quite a few updates over the years. secondly, the product was already largely evolved because it came out of the legacy of the op1 original. it doesn’t make sense to compare the product to what one images it “could” be.
all that said, it’s far too soon for any of us to suggest they are done updating this product. its got a lot of roadway ahead of it.
Again, I don’t disagree. Is it better than the OG-1? Yes, in my opinion. Have we received updates? Yes, but nothing significant that would be a game changer AND nothing really that people have been begging for.
I realize that not every request can be heard and made, but I disagree that we CAN get a product from what we “imagine it could be”. I can say that because TE extensively said from the beginning that there would be significant updates.
I would argue that there have been lot’s of updates but only “operational bug fixes”.
For the OP-1f to be high end and the cost it is I don’t think it’s too much for TE to listen to people and allow us to dream about what it could be. I have faith that they ARE doing this to an extent or else we wouldn’t have the XY.
I suspect it’s up next. I too have been waiting with bated breath but the last update was a game changer for me and I have to think it will be strategically released after the discount. Personally I’ve come to love the restrictions it comes with, I’m more just looking forward to seeing what they come up with…
Yeah it’s basically that your monitoring output and monitoring inputs are the same so all you get is feedback if you want to use the op-1f as a single dedicated audio interface.
I’d simply like to travel with an iPad and op-1f but that’s impossible with the monitoring being what it is.
wow that does stink. i didn’t know that. i know that that is certainly doable as you can enumerate through the USB audio tracks on the op1f when it is connected via USB to the TX6. presumably pretty similar to support that when connected to an iPad.
definitely. i know the feeling. its like, just one more device, no matter how small, is just crossing some line. esp when on a plane or otherwise on the go. my comment was more like, it seems within reach for te to implement that when connected to an ipad or mac
Interesting - I also hadn’t run into / tried that, but can definitely see the facility in it. Hopefully they put that in the next update for you. Right now my go to light setup is op1-f and a cm-15 with a pair of ear buds and a guitalele
Yeah I’m not so much on the “sequencing” and edm side of music making. I love the fact that the OP-1f is like a limited mini-DAW. I’m a drummer and a lot of times I like to have an external mixer (or even just one mic) that I run into the op-1f. I’d love the ability to have that track through into the iPad for processing but currently not able to do that. Even just using the op-1f as an interface for any DAW isn’t possible.
Well then let me put this back on you since you asked and all answers haven’t resonated
What are you looking for? HOW has it fell short from your expectations of what it should or would do? Like what isn’t working out for you since you said “hey I want the op-1f” , then you got it, had it for a while, and it still isn’t doing what you wanted it hoped - like what are you expecting TE to improve or fix or add ? Like I saw your OP feature request but I mean what is bothering you since you got it or whatever? What else needs a fix?
( im not sure what you mean by not using it as interface. I use it for my iPad all the time as an interface. What DAW do you use ? I use Cubasis, I either disable monitoring out in the audio track/mixing console, or I greatly lower the output volume to the op1 so it doesn’t feedback if it’s what I think you mean)
Yeah my list isn’t extensive and pretty much sums up all that I’m looking for.
My main gripe is not that it isn’t what I already knew it would be but in the notion that TE from the beginning of the Op-1f saying that there would be some significant updates.
I know what the device is or else I wouldn’t own it. I had the OG-1 and upgraded to the Op1f because it IS better and for the promises that it would be updated. It really hasn’t been.
When you monitor through Q-base what is your monitoring device?
Even at low volumes it still feeds back for me and even that idea as a work around is unacceptable in my world. Even low hum feedback is crazy to even think is acceptable.
Sometime I want to run op-1f out into AUM with some fx in AUM and back into the op-1f. You can’t do this without a crap ton of feedback.
I have op-1f I’m using with Cuebase on the iPad. I want to take a synth sound out of op-1f into a track in cuebase. It only has output 1-2 in stereo.
I want to monitor back into op-1f because at this point there is no other headphone jack to connect to.
So….there is only output 1-2 to monitor through. Hence feedback.
Right now my only options are to have another device in the chain (like a tx-6) which I don’t want with me on the road or to monitor through iPad with Bluetooth (which has too much latency to be acceptable).
