samples into the op-1 from various sources, chopped up and played by hand, synth engine, etc. made entirely on a flight from DC to LAX. which is one reason why i love this little thing.

Good Stuff Nenbeely!! I really like all this sharing experience. I just got my Op1 in Christmas, soon enough I’ll post my first track!
Ok,so i’ve always been an acoustic guy, but because of the OP-1 I started to try electronic and im fallin’ in love with it. It’s just endless creativity!!
Hate to double-post, but the battle thread I posted this to sank like a brick and I would like some feedback. So here is my track made under the rules of the previous battle (every sound derived from one sample):
I think this is the best thing I produced on OP-1 so far. (I’m speaking about technical aspects, not melody.) Still, it is not something I would actually listen to. And I don’t think anyone would like it as a soundrack for, say, a video game. There is something off about the whole thing, but I can’t quite understand what. Any suggestions? How would you improve the sound?

What sounds off to you? Do you mean from a mix/eq perspective? I just listened through shitty speakers so can’t help with that. Its nice and musical rather than loops on top of loops. I’m not totally into the brassy bass.
I simply cannot imagine it being played in any reasonable context. It’s neither here nor there in how the instruments all come together.
yoof pointed out some things that I think are true. The track doesn’t use stereo space and frequency space very well, so it sounds a bit too clumped. (And it was meant to be sort-of-ambient, which it did not turn out to be.)
I think the bass is also a problem. It sounds like tuba. In fact, most sounds there sound similar to cetrain accousic instruments, but I use them totally different, which ends up being weird.
I haven’t made anything in a few months. Trying to get back into the swing of things for Battle 30. Both follow those rules but I’m not happy with either. Gonna try and make one every day until I’m happy, or Feb 3rd happens heh
