OP-1 VIDEOS

thanks guys! :slight_smile: I should do another one really…

Went out to buy a Akai Rhythm Wolf this weekend only to find them sold out locally so came home with an Arturia Beatstep.

Pretty cool old fashioned style step-sequencing.
great for coming up with random tweakable sequences.

@spacetravelmadeeasy I really like your sound !

@spacetravelmadeeasy - nice!!!

How do you like the beatstep? I’m trying to figure out a way to configure the encoders on the beatstep to tweak FX and other parameters. Haven’t been successful.

Havent had much time to play with it. Had the jam (video) last week but had a mate round last night and were playing with it and the Rhythm Wolf I got through the week.

It’s not a massively feature packed bit of hardware - just really a sequencer and a controller but it does both well. I kind of like the fact theres no showing of notes/readout-display per knob type thing so it’s all experimental. Great for coming up with complete randomness with use with the OP, other hardware or even soft-synths in Live. Can’t really complain at the price.

Yeah mate last night asked if you can control parameters within the OP from external midi. I’d initially said no then I remembered the iPad App someone had built and that you can control 4 CC’s.

This might help OPAL-MS OP-1 & iPad Lemur App - YouTube

I probably won’t get a chance to try out the beatstep controlling the OP-1 FX etc this weekend have a busy one and want to cram in making a video with the new WOLF at somepoint :wink:

Here’s a couple of new videos.

The first is a “tell it like it is” review of Akai’s Rhythm Wolf Drum Machine.

and the second is a little jam with the Rhythm Wolf, OP-1 and Beatstep.
The purpose of the video is just really to showcase some sounds from the wolf.
I’ve added reverb to the drums as they sound so flat otherwise.

A little remix I did yesterday. All op-1 and drum samples.

I’m digging the vids V-F! I like the hiphop vibe and you’re killin that little bit crush box!

Don’t stop mon.

Great videos VF! I’d seen the Boiler Room one but not the others I don’t think.

Should get 'em up on YouTube as well as Vimeo.

Haha, ya I don’t generally use YouTube as I don’t have thick enough skin for all the hateful comments.

You can turn comments off.
F*ck what anyone else thinks - as long as you’re having fun :wink:

@spacetravelmadeeasy nicely made vids, as usual.

So from what I gather from here and the Tube, is that the encoders on the Beatstep can’t control anything on the op-1 but the notes in the sequence, right? This seems to be the case with the Beatstep plugged into the Brutes as well. What gives? I would’ve thought that the beatstep software would be able to make this possible.

I spoke to soon! http://youtu.be/WBEIr96-p_Y

But I want more.

@Kites Let me tell you that the BeatStep is quite lackluster. It is just another 16 step sequencer. The worst part is, you think that the encoders are pretty cool…wrong…you never know at what value they are which is not a major disaster, but what is that you also never know to what value you are changing it to. A tiny tiny lcd display would have fixed that problem. Now it just feels pretty gimmicky.

At first I was very enthusiastic about it but it is a big letdown. IMO the OP-1 Pattern sequencer does a better job than the BeatStep could even dream.
I finally sold the BeatStep.
