even if it looks so crammed, the zoom function and the response of the virtual Knobs are really handy!
Nice.

Has anyone else had issues with MIDI clock sync?
Ableton is my main clock, and the OP-Z is synced via USB MIDI. I’m not sending tempo, so both Ableton and OP-Z are set to the same BPM (I had other sync issues when the Z followed tempo) and simply start at the same time. I’m finding that after a few minutes the tempo on the Z is wildly off from Ableton.
I feel like I didn’t see this issue before the current firmware, but maybe (?) I’m mistaken.
New user here. Been reading the forums for about a week now.
Just got the OP-Z, love it. Chord progressions are game changing.
I’d like to send MIDI to my Squarp Hermod in order to send to Eurorack and Thru to other devices. But its not receiving anything (I saw another thread mentioning this problem came up after the latest fw update).
My Yamaha Reface CS (Omni mode turned off via cc124) was also acting funny when USB’d directly to the OP-Z, sending MIDI to the OP-Z even though OP-Z Midi IN is disabled via the app.
In short:
Is it safe to say the OP-Z USB MIDI is still in it’s infancy? Should compatibility be improved through firmware updates?
I use a Retrokits RK-005 to connect OP-Z to anything midi, and it works very well.
One OP-Z midi glitch I’ve noticed is that changing settings on the OP-Z doesn’t always “take” until you exit the midi settings screen in the app.
And another question!
Has anyone been able to record midi from an external controller? For instance, if you have some nice midi chords in Logic or Ableton, etc., can you record those direct to the OP-Z’s chord track?
Edit: Yes, you can. In Logic, add a new External MIDI track, pick there OP-Z as its destination, and you’re off. I just recorded a super-complex chord progression into the OP-Z. Make sure you never have more than four notes sounding at the same time though (three for non-Chord tracks), or the OP-Z will drop some of them.
i’ve noticed that the order in which u hook things up plays a big role
in whether the things u want to connect play nice or not w/ the Z usb host.
like sometimes u wanna have the devices on and then plug them in
or plug them in then turn on
or turn one on plug it in, then turn the other on
etc etc.
its kinda exhausting
this helps a lot with sync and control.
I was intrigued by this video and searched the web (see links bellow) to build that up and test it.
So using the raspberry pi you can easly make a trouble free usb midi host, acting as a power hub too (nice). It’s a perfect companion for a portable gig setup (smaller footprint, less cables). With a power bank to feed the pi, you could even jamm on top of the Everest
I’m running flawless OP-Z and OP-1 connected to the pi. I can hot plug a midisport 2x2 to have some DIN if needed for other gear, a USB keyboard, well anything that has midi/USB and/or use USB powering. I’m about to add the 1010music blackbox to that setup (I may use the DIN here for midi and only use the pi for powering. The host output of the blackbox could be trouble connecting) . If you need more USB, adding an AC powered hub should work too.

you can search and source a lot for midi sync but a lot of peeps don‘t hassle with their custom image, that’s why iam selling plug and play images (with a built in PD environment)
if you brick your SD card the first time, which will happen, the experience is down for some days or months.
Great Job!
@JohnnyEgo I like to dig stuff and try it on my own. I totally understand that some people don’t want to assle with the process and buy a ready made image, especially if you don’t have some basics of linux to understand what you are doing. And like you said, you added “goodies” to the image, like pure data , it’s great !
I was just digging some source for people who like to experiment and relate my own experience.
i like your approach and the challenge you already mastered.
my whole raspberry pi adventure started one week after owning the Organelle, at this Time i realized that the inner circuits are basically a raspberry pi 2 and the rest is open source etc.
bought a pi3, some externals and the iPad mini 3 after I’ve returned my Organelle and never came back because of the great opportunities inside a raspberry but I’ve learned it the hard way and now I can‘t imagine a sync situation without it…and it will grow even bigger with a pi4 and its massive Ram and CPU, Usb C can go up to 60w for power consumption.
my latest and biggest approach was the ~real-time behavior of PD and the ability to use the OP-Z as USB soundcard while at the same time syncing/controlling everything else.
the Organelle patches running with a 4ms/128 buffer. you won‘t recognize latency!
two years ago this was the first result:
Hey gang, does any one know it it is possible to mute outgoing cc messages from the opz? I can only find mention of changing the cc number not just simply turning output off.
Can someone please point me to the assigned CC output the dials are assigned to for outputting CC to external midi? I’ve had luck on the receiving software side “catching these,” but want to integrate the OP-Z to not only trigger external gates, but also assign CC parameter sweeps recorded on the Z to hardware gear with fixed CC settings.
I see the following on the TE site. Do the incoming CC’s match the output, and can these be Customized?
“parameter_cc_out 0 – 255 set outgoing cc value per parameter per track”
Thx!
you can easily change the midi ccs per dial on every track within the App. (Midi Setup)
change it with the touch strip.
it’s a bit more comfortable compared to the midi.json file.
Aha! Many thanks… we shall test this ASAP.
is it possible to select patterns and projects using midi in from ableton live ?
i am preparing a live set where i want each section of the track (into, drop, etc,) to trigger th op’z program commands for selecting patterns and tracks…
yet i couldn’t find a solution to this as i can onli send midi notes in the opz and not program chages even though the midi settings on the opz have ‘program change enabled’
please help !!
Connected to ny MPC , step comments jack my box up sloppy. It works with usb or bluetooth but makes no sense
I have issue with clock sync. I connect op-z directly to midi-cv module via usb c. Op-Z is set to master, but module receive unstable clock(+/-0.5 bpm) constantly.
I too have noticed unstable Midi clock from the USBC. Using it with a Molten Voltage modified Carbon Copy Delay. Resulting Tiny modulations of the delay speed. I can cofirm that clock works fine from the OPLab module.
I’m wondering if there is any way to control synth presets via midi on OP-Z. For example, I have Animoog on iPad assigned to bass track on OP-Z playing patch A on pattern 1, then, when I’ll change to pattern 2 on OP-Z I want Animoog automatically change preset to B. These midi control options are obvious on Digitakt or MPC, but I can’t figure it out on OP-Z which feels more like a toy when it comes to external midi sequencing. Any help ?
