If he really wanted a grand out of this deal, it would have been far more productive to sell it to this group than put a worthless URL up for auction. Agree? He might have even got more than that.
personally, I think JP is deceased and the executor of his estate has no idea where the real value of Ohpeewon lies. To me it’s the ONLY explanation that makes sense, given what we know.
well @meneervincent and @tasmansea I feel you are right in someways he doesn’t owe us anything. but why spend that money just to through it away. the auction is for the domain name not the sever data.
We all said the @Tribrix and he popped back in to say he is very busy not dead.
I have also, since that time asked him if he want to hand over the site to others, and he never answers. so maybe his email address sykes.jon@gmail is a honeypot.
Here is his linkdin page:

Ah . . . more strange
Hi Everybody!
So, where/how does the auction take place? Not sure if someone can start a “save ohpeewon’s data” kickstarter or something like that? I would put in a bit of dough for sure. TBH would be cool if T.E stepped in and bought it, but don’t think that would happen. IMO if somehow Ohpeewon is saved, the data should be imported here if possible or archived somewhere. I like the new forum better.
i thought i saw a link to the auction from the host gator page that redirects from ohpeewon but from what i’ve gathered from dimi and kris, is that the auction isn’t for any of the site data…? just for the domain itself. so we’d be auctioning for basically just the name. we’d be starting from where we are content-wise either way.
The auction is purely a domain name.
As frustrating as it can be, until someone hears from him maybe it’s not worth getting mad about yet. Life has a way of knocking us down unexpectedly, sometimes replying to former online friends isn’t always possible or a priority.
Maybe he thought TE would want to save the name.
This unlikely turn for this community is strange.
@Tarekith indeed, through all of this just hope JP is ok.
punji has given us leads…
Someone pissed him off I guess. I know what it’s like to start a community and through innocent mistakes have some of those people turn on you, it’s a bitter thing to have happen and in the end (with a flourish of teenage drama) I walked away. Sometimes that’s the only emotionally healthy thing to do.
Who pissed him off? In March people expressed concern about the coming June URL expiration and he eventually/finally insisted there was no problem, and yet in late June the site expired, and nothing from him for over two weeks now? What did he walk away from? Nobody turned on him, nobody made drama for him.
Oh it was you was it? Sorry. I think he has a moral obligation to at least reply WTF he intends to do with our data, although I do realize it’s probably not a legal obligation… =(
Don’t be, we could only go on data that JP provided us at the time.
meh, shit happens. Sucks, but I think we are off for the better. The new forum looks and feels much better. We will recuperate from the loss just fine. No need stay upset. R-Kelly in his boundless wisdom once said: “What they eat don’t make us shit”. So whatever the reasons for JP’s actions, it’s done and we have to look forward to the new dawn. ohpeewon or operator-1 or whatever, it’s the community that fuels this phoenix. It’s fires have been rekindled just fine.
