Thinking more on it, maybe it was TE that JP got mad at. Maybe they were in talks to takeover the site or something and it broke down. Just idle speculation on my part and it doesn’t explain the subsequent auction.
question about the auction. does that money go to host gator? or to the domain owner (i.e. JP)?
i actually think we'll be better off in the long run here. i feel like this would be a reoccuring thing w/ the old site every year or two.
I heard from JP this morning.
Honestly, I don’t think the data loss is that big of a deal.
Many of us are already here, and I’m sure more will be joining. We’ll make a new community, with new topics, and new data.
Let’s let the past remain the past and push forward.
That’s a pretty harsh email considering what he was doing with Ohpeewon was providing a free service.
Dimi, you’ll know yourself what kind of work it takes to get a forum up and running and to maintain it to the expectations of the users.
Yes ohpeewon is a pretty cool url but it’s the community thats the value, not the url here - particularly as everyone has moved to this new forum.

I’m sure no one would mind if you implemented google ads - we could make a feature of it and have a “click-advert wednesday” to help fun the server costs

I would be hard pressed to do ads… TE and I have a relationship, which is good. might add a paypal thingy some day…
He may just have it up that way so someone else (who has no love for the game) doesn't pounce on it.
You may find that he'll relinquish the keys for $1, once he verifies that the person buying actually intends on fostering the OP-1 community.
Faith.
+1 cuckoo. I wouldnt be hard on JP he brought us together. His glue was strong. ours is stronger.
What is weird, GoDaddy says He is auctioning it. so there is some shifty dealings… Might mention that to him @KrisM.
I have already told him that.
messed up shit!
Just a note from working with GoDaddy and other domain-hosts in the past…
But simply renewing the domain you own does not require hefty fees… they always send multiple email reminders that your domain is about to expire etc.
Ball was dropped at some point, not by Godaddy. No question about it.
That’s for sure, but there’s likely no malice - i.e. the auction is not his idea.
