po-14 only in key of C

That’s just so weak… feeling pretty much no hype for these anymore hehe.

Does that explanation really make sense from a music theory stand point?

Kind of. “the white keys” are pretty hard to f up when it comes to writing melodies, etc. A lot of EDM is written in C because of this, iirc.

Actually, I used them when I did Deck the Halls on the first Christmas compilation >.> Just happened to be the first place I found the melody on.

I have no music theory knowledge, turns out I “write” in C anyways (the black keys confuse me).

ha, funny. don’t know much music theory but i’ve always found that hitting only black keys usually yields pretty melodies/chords. some of my fav old aphex twin songs are all black keys (on, mookid)

If we can use FX15 and punch in per step like TE said, we should be able to play anything really. Not the easiest way to write, but it should function. Get a pattern going, turn tempo waaay down for easier punching in? @masterofstuff124 , please master this, record video and post ; )

But I wouldn't lump @cuckoo into that camp, either.

Lol… well, to tell you the truth I’m really stuck in a few amount of keys, like a prisoner. C minor comes very natural. But I try to vary myself and play in all possible keys. I don’t have the training to transition freely between all keys without giving it some heavy brain work… Also some heavy bass sounds resonate really well in some frequencies, but in others not. This will sometimes dictate the key of some electronic music.

Sorry for trolling… The C question remains. A master transpose would be nice.

A natural seems so resonate like a mofo

A natural seems so resonate like a mofo

Mofo as in “mofo, noun (pl.mofos) vulgar slang, short for motherfucker.”?

Exactly!

I think they should have kept the C major scale for the buttons but be able to access flats and sharps with the knobs.

It doesn’t bother me one bit… I’ll take them all from you guys!

Doesn't bother me. However, NO AFTERTOUCH?!!! :P

It is a shortcoming. But I’m still enjoying the crazyness I’m able to pull outta this machine. Approaching it less like a musician and more like a time waster I am having way to much fun making beeps and boops. So much of this device is outrageously clever.

surely if you have a major scale and the major scale a semitone up via fx15 then every possible note is available to you?

granted still not ideal but hey…

after considering it, I’ve decided to keep my order intact. I never really planned to use these things to play anything tonally anyway and just want to abuse the shit out of them, so being locked to C is kind of moot for me.

I mean it’s still some of the weakest sauce on the planet. It just won’t matter for my desired use.

1 month later - how are people coping? More specifically, how are the Sub and Factory owners blending their melodies with other gear?

…using small amount of it and build things around…

it is the best way either. Reduce

And in fact adding only rare sharps make it very interesting imo

Gahhhh. Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I already have the Rhythm, love it, and had my finger hovering over the button to buy the Factory. So glad I saw this thread.

I make weird synth pop. I sing. I’ve just started doing loop-based stuff and LOVE the idea of adding the Factory to it, but I transpose everything until I can sing it properly and basically none of my writing is in C. A few months on, has anybody found an alternative way around this?
