I must admit so far I’m a bit underwhelmed.
Of course I’ll sequence it from the outside (61SL, OT) and will be able to add all the Elektron LFOs I want. And it asks to be played, interacted with velocity and after touch…
But the one I received was in OS 1.3.1 with a bug big as a mountain (6 notes off every 6 notes, what the hell ?)
I thus upgraded the OS to latest 1.5.5, and it works better.
Still, the sound is here and that’s all I was expecting from it
Well, sorry to hear that; I was similarly disappointed with Prophet 08. I always wanted one and once I managed to get it I absolutely hated that synth. I’ve got Mopho x4 which I absolutely love (dumb victim) and Prophet 12 which I thought would be something closer to your heart than OB6. I must say I’ve never gad any issues with DSI stuff, so it’s unfortunate that you got one so buggy.
Have you tried to play Jump by Van Halen on it? That might help you to fall in love with it ?

I haven’t looked at the model d specs so I wasn’t sure if behringer haven’t modded their D version
it sounds amazing; if I didn’t have Little Phatty I’d be definitely after one of these

Oops, I might just have accidentally bought an OP-Z…
…aaaaand : it’s not in stock anymore.
Shall I call it fate and abandon this idea?
Yeah, maybe. Seems the synths are pretty limited anyway…
…buuuuut I’m weak and so much fond of the POs… I feel like OP-Z could be useful for gigs. But in the first place for the two weeks I’ll spent at La Réunion
10h of plane ⇒ 10h of fun
Bought it again. Sorry, Fate.
Wow! Where did you find it? I’d love to get another one. It was my very first sequencer!!! Now I use seq24 on the raspberry pi to simulate but its nothing like the real deal.
So the OP-Z came home, but it’s obviously B-Stock, the provider hasn’t been fair.
Been twice that fate called me out of this.
I tried it a bit, and while the sequencer on this thing feels particularly powerful, I was extremely disappointed at the sound. I even managed to have some digital distorsion at some point, eek.
And 599€ for this feels pretty expensive.
I agree with @fallen_lassen
I noticed a lot of distortion in the beginning too. Especially with the bass engines.
Turn the track volume down and the master as well (mixer + right dial).
Maybe this was an attempt of TE to make the unit sound good.
as we all know: loud=good
I have grown extremely used to Elektron gear.
Soundwise, it’s nowhere near IMO.
Of course I don’t feel like my opinion is very informed… But my instinct+fate seem to tell me it’s not the right time
Hey there, I just received my OP-Z and I am super happy!
I think maybe you just need some time to get into it a bit - forget about what it cost you in more ways than one and embrace it.
The sequencer alone will take any Elektron box to the cleaners (I have MM A4 and DT) - it’s really incredibly powerful - which also means you can manipulate sound in untold ways.
Sound wise, all gear has it quirks - I think quality wise the OP-Z is easily as good as the DT - in fact I think it sounds very similar (apart from that amazing Elektron reverb of course)
I also don’t know if my opinion is very informed either…
The OP-Z mixer is way less intuitive than the OP-1 for sure. It’s a fine line between just right and overcooked lol. I wish the app showed better feedback on the levels, or any feedback for that matter.
