POTT - Pocket Operators Trick Tips

oh cool yea. i didn’t think of that w/ the sound params.

yea thats what i’ve been doing. low pass / high pass. sometimes repeat gives u a global mute if u hit it when there are no sounds to retrigger. stutter also gives a mute like style. and i think whatever the hell 13 is too.

@sammyjams You are right, I hadn't noticed the spools animations! So that leaves out only the needle and the multipliers...

@punji noticed last night, the needle appears when in a sync mode other than SY0

@masterofstuff124 u were right. undeniably fun. great for live shit too. brought the PO12 to the show last night. PO+SP = heaven. just scooped a factory so they each got someone to play with. WTF is happening!! haha

I expected to get all three over a long period of time. I already own all three. facepalm. Each one has its own charm and flavor and im enjoying all of them!

haha yea they are wild, i love the sounds u can get on the rhythm. very wide range and deep. SOOO DEEEP...

I believe the needle graphic on the PO-12 appears when any sync setting is selected other than "sy0." Is that the graphic that you're referring to?

@crowbar Yes! sammyjams also figured out that one above.

It is a pity that they have not used the 2 4 8 16 graphics, it is hard to tell the current multiplier value by ear…

is there no multiplier on factory or sub?

it says in the factory guide that there is, but i can’t get it to work so prob the answer is no.

the guide also says 2 different things for the list of FX so i’m thinking maybe just a misprint…?

^ No multiplier on factory/sub, but I think the play style (keyoo) can do something similar if you punch in at the right time.

I found a nice workaround for the diatonic-ness of PO-14/16. Some of the microdrum sounds are pitchable, especially in the lower registers. You can tune these sounds in sharps or flats and enter them in the sequence. Then fill in other steps with the natural notes in whatever scale you’re using. For example, I made a track using a sample that was in C#. I tuned microdrum sounds from the Sub in C#, D# and F#, then entered additional synth notes in E, A and B. 90% of the time, I’m running the POs through my OP-1, so I have synths to tune the drum sounds to. If you’re using in standalone, enter a long note, use effect 15 to tune to the sharp or flat and then tune your desired drum sound. Then wipe effect 15 when done. Effect 15 will not effect the drum sound. This method can have some interesting results when you have your synth notes programmed, since play styles won’t effect the drum sound. There are some drawbacks of course. Limited sounds to choose from, no adjusting of note length, and you can’t use additional microdrum sounds on any step where you have used a pitched sound. On the upside, it frees up the FX layer and can have some interesting results using play styles and FX.

Just got my Sub from B&H and I’m loving it so far, awesome little thing. I just wish it were capable of assigning more than one sound per pattern (besides the drum machine).

Agreed. I spent some time playing with the Rhythm first, and was thrown off when I discovered that Sub could only do one sound at a time.

hey stupid PO question. like how factory is limited to C3 - D5. what is the note range on Sub?

@docshermsticks according to the Subs readout it is c0-d2. effect 14 can also lower everything down an octave. or up an octave with 13.

thanks g! @masterofstuff124

here’s a lil fashion tip for all the hip operators out there

I just confirmed that PO pattern changes are persisted only when it goes to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity. If you remove the battery before that all changes are lost.

The PO-12 retrigger values are x1, x2, x3, x4, x6 and x8. That is the reason why the 24816 display icons are not used.

Hi has anyone out there tried hacking their PO? I love my PO12 but would like to build an enclosure with larger buttons. Not a hack exactly!

I like this set up with arcade buttons:
http://www.allymobbs.com/blog/?p=907

The buttons can all be triggered with a simple momentary push button connected to ground and the lower left hand contact of the original switch.

The pots looks straightforward too, values seem to be 50k Lin?

1/4" jack also simple to add.

But to make this work I’d like to connect LEDs too.

Does anyone know how to wire in new LEDs from the PO12 board?

Thanks!

Some great tips on here from the (Hip) Operator Allstars. That 5min battery tip especially ,for restoring patterns @punji.
