Recommend a reverb

I bought a TC Electronic T2 Trinity reverb a couple of weeks ago to go with the Sub 37. Has stereo ins/outs, small footprint, to my ears it sounds great (especially for the price; 130-150 eur), works with PSU or battery, etc. Some say it's too 'VST', I say it's digital and just delivers what it promises to. Not a Big Sky (have one, will never sell), has its limitations, but then again, it comes at the fraction of price.
(on a sidenote: the OTO BAM is a darned good unit... some day, some day...)

That’s good to hear, I was caught between ordering that or the HoF yesterday and went with the T2.

I have the Avalanche Run and it is currently my favorite pedal. The delay is amazing - almost like a crazy looper. The reverb sounds good, but is limited (only length and wet amt). I also have the Afterneath, which is like the Avalanche Run reverb, but dedicated and with more control. Really cool, but not typical - pretty far out. Transmissor looks great, too. As you can see, i am a fan of Earthquaker.

I’ve just discovered the Earthquaker stuff, & now I realise why I didn’t like the BigSky.

The Iron Ether Nimbus is also a great reverb

The Transmisser is very cool, but very far out :). In good way of course

Hey friend : care to share your reasons ?

Because they’re too nice/perfect for what I want. The Earthquaker reverbs seem to shift & feel murky. Like the sun trying to break through storm clouds. Seem to add a lot more of the atmosphere that I’m after. Also loving the Caroline Meteore & Death by Audio Reverberation Machine.

Edit: just realised that I’m contradicting myself in the discussion. Previously implying that I wanted something less prominent than the BigSky, when all the above mentioned reverbs totally colour the sound.

… and so does the BigSky. It is, however, a little too smooth for its own good, agreed.

I’m curious, what do you guys think about Analog Four’s built-in reverb effect? Compared to dedicated units, that is. A4 can be used as an effects processor, after all.

I dig my Analog Keys Reverb. I think it’s great.

Trying to haggle an Oto Bam and Analog Heat together for £1000

After reading this thread I’m considering selling my KaossPad 3 (which I rarely used for anything productive) and buying Electro-Harmonix Cathedral. No sure whether it’s a sensible idea.

Pro:
- OP-1 has most features of KP3. (Sampling, re-sampling, it can even approximate a lot of the effects.)
- I’m struggling to plug KP3 someplace into my workflow(s).
- IMO, plugging OP-1, PO-12 or JP-8080 into a good reverb would significantly expand their sound palette.

Con:
- Kaoss Pad is a fun, very hands-on device.
- I have several other devices that can procude reverb of some sort.

Hm… Anyone owned a Cathedral?

@gambler, I owned one for a little while, didn’t like it very much tbh. Found it to be quite metallic and unnatural-sounding on almost every setting, like a cheap VST. IMO there are other better options in that price range (digitech polara maybe?). I now have a quadraverb which I really love, but saving up to replace it with a Space for ease of editing. The menu diving and rack size are the only things I don’t like about the QV.

Still love my blue sky. Plus now I have count to five, and together they make beautiful babies. Plus Miku with a dedicated 5 band graphic EQ, and I’m in strange tone heaven.

Been looking at the peds a lot of you mentioned here, and they mostly all look so cool. Would love an afterneath… Would love some oto.

Thanks for the info. I’ve read something similar about it before. Since the local store doesn’t have it in stock to try out, I’ll stay away and look into Polara.

the KP3 has some great reverbs in it, and delays! I would personally keep it over getting a cathedral just for the versatility. Brian Eno swears by them

I guess similarly to @Anfim i am not super keen on the cathedral I had one for a bit and for my tastes it sat a bit uncomfortably between being an interesting lo fi reverb and being a good quality high fi reverb. It never quite seemed to tick either box for me so i sold it. Yes its pretty metalic sometimes also! The infinite switch is fun though.

I tested the reverbs of KP3 with OP-1 before posting. I liked their character, but when I cranked plain reverbs all the way up for ambient stuff (which is why I want an external effect in the first place) there was some kind of digital rattling going on. Like grains of sand bouncing of a granite plate. Maybe I did something wrong and somehow amplified noise, but I didn’t have the same issue when running through A4.

Hm, one thing I didn’t try is combining a moderate amount of Spring with a moderate amount of KP3 reverb. That ought to add up to a longer, more ambient effect. Maybe that will work well for my purpose. I will try that.

(Actually, I’ve heard Cathedral also has some issues when you crank it up, which gives me another reason to stay away from it.)

One thing I realized after all these experiments is that Spring is actually pretty good for subtle space creation. It’s a pity that there is no way to use it (or Grid) for longer decays without creating some super-obvious noise. If only there was some way to do stereo-bounce of album to tape… Then we could layer several layers of reverb right within the unit.

A lovely 15 minute video demo of Bam and an MFB drum machine has just uploaded

I get by with some the options in the Mini KP (even has sidechain types) or the Ineko if I don’t have to stay put (use batteries).

Another fun one is the Earthquaker Afterneath or the Rainbow Machine with less extreme settings.

After lurking this thread for a while, I decided to pull the trigger on an OTO BAM. I hope I find it useful!
