Shame

They had a perfectly good product and ruined it with an overpriced product I totally lost interest in thanks to bugs

Ill miss you op-z

But I’m glad you’re gone

What bugs did yours have? I thought most people’s issues were QC related not software/firmware based

Hard to consider it perfect when it was so bad you’re glad it’s been discontinued

No im not glad its discontinued

I mean so I don’t keep buying them lol

I feel like the OP-Z is like the second album of a band… in the first album, your put in your ideas accumulated over years and create a radical new style (OP-1)… then you have the attention and budget to go big on the second album (OP-Z): crazy new features, crazy form factor, stylized out the wazoo… promising singles (POs) to fuel the hype… The first thing I noticed about the Z (apart from thinking this device is not for real and a joke product, I mean no screen and looks like a TV remote, come on…) was the questionable power switch, which basically says “break me”… (on a side note, I feel the same about the power switch on the OP-1F, the OG-1 switch is also a constant issue, the POs solved this by not having one…)… this was already foreshadowing… I love my Z regardless, it’s so unique… quality issues didn’t keep people from collecting Buchlas and Synthies… just hope that these devices can be kept alive with parts just like the OG-1. Unlike the OG-1 there are opportunities for the user base to further “develop” the device, as you can create your own videopaks and use these to control the device itself, to an extent. Long live the Z!

I knew it was coming so I bought three to last me hopefully a long time… one of a kind!

Smart.

I hope I don’t regret not buying extras. Only just started really getting into it since the announcement, since it hasn’t clicked with me and I was thinking of selling it. But it’s a really great idea generator.

On the OP-XY, I keep having issues with samples not loading properly, forcing me to constantly reset the device just to get them to load—if they even load at all. I’ve also encountered encoder issues, random pops in my recordings after saving them, and lost my projects after performing an MTP save before a factory reset while using version 1.0.29. I’m almost at the point of giving up on it. It was a big investment, only to end up selling it at a loss. They should just bring back the OP-Z.

Rest in Piece OP-Z…
It was obvious that TE stopped caring about it, and especially clear after XY announcement. But still had some hope for the best until now.

Don’t give up on it. Once you really get it there is nothing like it. Also spend time with Photomatic and if possible the DMX lighting. It’s unlike anything else for creating interesting realms.

Such a shame they nixed it.

it had a good run. i love my opz. def nothing like it. i didn’t fully appreciate how capable it truly is until i got more experience with other gear. im not saying one is better than the other but one such example of appreciation is when using the digitone2, you have to sacrifice a track in order to send external midi whereas the teeny tiny little opz can send midi on any channel simultaneously with internal sequencing too

yep

i’ve said it before but the joy of using opz got me back into hardware jamming and then i bought a ton more which have all been sold since then

opz is a TON of power and utility in a tiny package

kinda wish there were a midrange option between Z and XY with more dna pulled from opz, a true succesor…but that’ll probably never happen

i hope one day we will have talented hardware engineers boutique upgrade opz like what those folks did with the MC 202 revamp into the MC 2 OH 2. an aluminum screen-less opz

Hopefully this means they’ll be putting major attention towards advancing and fixing the other OP devices. Right?

…right?

I mean they have been, there haven’t been any updates for the OP-Z in years

I think I’m most disappointed that there won’t be any more modules. I used to wonder what amazing new modules they were dreaming up at TE HQ and when we might get them. I’m happy with what we got but more would have been great.

I’d like to know what they did perhaps come up with that never made it to finished products.

That would definitely be interesting to hear about. I’d love them to do a deep dive blog post about the device now that it’s in their history.
