TX-6 mixer

Yes, it would seem that if there is memory, then all of the hardware is there to support it. Who’s going to be brave and open up their new baby!?

I’m guessing the next field series will be the recorder.

i connected it as a drive to my computer and saw quite minimal storage “available”

is that something which could be hidden or concealed by firmware if there is flash memory onboard?? i don’t know

Interesting… yes. They can re partition or “unhide” another partition depending on the file system format etc.

Just started to play around with my unit, pretty amazing. I don’t have thin fingers but it’s very usable. One thing I tried right away is using the TX-6 as a sound card on my computer, and it works great - connect it to your Mac, and audio can be routed to a regular mixer channel. No need to use headphones output, just the USB-C cable.

The field bag I received works very decently with the TX-6, and if you remove the jack adapter and put it in the small pouch in front it’s a perfect fit.

Looking forward to exploring all the bells and whistles of that thing, it is more portable than anything I have used until now, and does everything I have ever wished to find in a small mixer and more!

No internal recording, but like the price. The Spring of tiny mixers

that design is awesome. custom parts as workflow enhancements and long R&D and much love. rumble module, sensitive brushless motor faders and for all products such a lot of headroom for future updates and other placeholders to get filled.

hopefully unified within the OPZ

Anybody tried to connect it to a PC? Does it work with Ableton? How is the latency?

Spent the morning playing with a TX-6 (not mine unfortunately).

Question for anyone that has a TX-6:
It seems that the FX do not effect the USB output is correct.

To explain further - I connected my colleagues drum machine to inputs 1 and 2 (it’s his TX-6) and then connected the UBS output to my iPad (into a DAW called Auria Pro). The TX-6 is set to 12 OUT on USB (which is what I wanted to try out).

Altering the faders changes the levels into the iPad (as you would expect).

Altering the EQ changes the eq of the sounds going into the iPad (also as you would expect).

However applying the effects does not add any effects into the sound going into the iPad. Plugging headphones into the TX-6 allows you to hear the effects applied to the drum machine but the FX are not applied to the USB output - this seems strange to us as it means that you cant actually use the TX-6 effects with your DAW.

Unless we have missed something… (we looked through all the settings but couldn’t see anything obvious).

man that would be a huge bummer if thats the case

looking at the signal flow
https://teenage.engineering/guides/tx-6#signal-flow

and this is purely a guess but the 2 fx busses tap out at the master level
so maybe when tapping into each individual channel is before this and thus why u dont hear them?

is there a way to monitor the master over USB?
i see there are a bunch of different USB routing options
im guessing u tried all of these?

I’m no longer at my colleagues place but we did find that setting the USB out to ‘2 channels’ actual sends the mix to the USB out (i.e. including FX I and II) so at least that works BUT I would have expected that the FX would also be sent to 12 channel output - this seems a strange omission to me (especially as the FX are pretty… er… effective  ),

Maybe something that can be added in a firmware update…

As an aside, I’ve never been great at following and understanding mixer flow diagrams - I tend to just mess around until I get the setup I need. I’m sure If I took the time to read and follow such things it would save me a ton of hassle.

yea i agree FX on individual tracks over the USB would be a heavy selling point for me
but i think it makes sense b/c the FX busses are like a send and return
not actually 6 or 12 separate FX engines
which would be super processor heavy
but rather its 2 FX engines with FX send volume controls coming from each channel

this way makes it so all the tracks that get sent to the FX just get mixed together
to one FX return for each buss so there is no individual FX tracks to tap into

this is a pretty standard way of doing things in mixer world for better or worse

and yea the signal flow diagram isn’t super clear either lol
its kinda confusing how they have laid it out
and theres no mention of where the USB actually taps into

Thanks for the explanation @docshermsticks - that makes sense.

Showing where the different settings of the USB actually tap into would make things clearer for sure.

i would be so down to design a lil hard case for it if i had dimensions

dimensions are right in the guide
https://teenage.engineering/guides/tx-6#tech-specs

dimensions and weight

90 mm (102 mm with adapter) x 62 mm x 23 mm
160 g / 5.6 oz

You are literally a point?

I just heard on SonicState that if you put a USB-C thumbdrive in the TX-6 it will record to the drive. If true, it certainly sounds like this was indeed something where the software wasn’t ready at launch.
