After weeks of continuous development, testing and experimentation, we finally cracked one of the biggest limitations between Teenage Engineering hardware and iPhone/iPad.

Studio Field can now communicate directly with OP-1 field and OP-XY on iOS (iPhone/iPad) - including full MTP device access!

This is a big deal.

OP-1 field and OP-XY use MTP as their primary file-transfer protocol. Until now, this has effectively kept full device access on the desktop. Teenage Engineering’s own Field Kit is Mac-only, and their documentation states that direct full-device file transfer is not available through an iOS or iPadOS app.

Studio Field changes that :rocket:

For the first time, you can connect an OP-1 field or OP-XY directly to an iPhone or iPad over USB-C and actually work with the content on the device.

No Mac in between.
No PC in between.
Just your Teenage Engineering device, a USB-C cable and your iPhone or iPad.

And we didn’t stop there.

Studio Field for iOS now supports:

• OP-1 field - tapes, synths, drums, mixdowns, transfer, playback, backup and restore
• OP-XY - projects, samples, presets, backup and restore, plus direct USB audio recording to iPhone/iPad
• OP-1 Original - tapes, synths, drums and albums, backup and restore
• OP-Z - projects, sample packs, bounces, configuration, backup and restore

There is also something special for anyone moving from an Original to a Field:
Studio Field can convert OP-1 Original tapes into OP-1 field format directly on iPhone and iPad.

:cloud: And your Mac, iPhone and iPad work as one Studio Field ecosystem. (iCloud Sync)

With iCloud Sync enabled, your Studio Field Library and device backups sync between the Mac and iOS versions. Transfer something on your iPhone and continue working with it on your Mac — or vice versa.

This has been one of the most technically challenging parts of Studio Field so far, and seeing an OP-1 field and OP-XY communicating directly with an iPhone still feels a little unreal.

But it works.

And we’re just getting started.

Studio Field is under active development, and the past few weeks in particular have involved a huge amount of continuous work, testing and experimentation to make all of this possible.

Studio Field hasn’t been developed or tested with older iPhone models that use a Lightning connector. If your iPhone supports iOS 26, we believe it should work with a compatible Lightning-to-USB adapter, but unfortunately we can’t confirm this reliably at the moment.

Yes! :slightly_smiling_face: Both the macOS and iOS versions of Studio Field support adding/importing samples to the OP-1 field

I was able to try it with a third-party camera adapter on an iPhone 13 Pro. On the first launch, the OP-1 Field was detected, but strangely it couldn’t see all the sounds stored on it—especially the synths.

At first I was a bit disappointed, but I disconnected it and reconnected it, and then everything worked perfectly.

So, as a video game developer (well, more of a designer :slight_smile: ), I’d say it might be a first-time initialization issue?

That’s actually quite interesting. The iPhone 13 Pro still uses Lightning, and in your case the connection was also going through a third-party camera adapter, so that’s quite a different USB path compared to newer USB-C iPhones.

There isn’t really an equivalent “Camera Connection Kit” for modern USB-C iPhones — USB devices connect directly over USB-C. What’s interesting is that direct MTP access to devices like the OP-1 Field has not normally been possible that way on newer iOS versions.

So it’s interesting that the older Lightning + camera adapter setup was able to establish the connection at all. The incomplete first connection could have been an initialization issue, but it could also have been related to the third-party adapter or the older Lightning USB accessory interface. The fact that reconnecting made everything appear correctly certainly suggests something in that initial USB/MTP handshake.

I use this cable with the PunchKit app and the KOII/SideKick, and it works perfectly.

I was sure it would work with the OP-1 Field as well. Since the app displays the transfer speed, I noticed that it is fairly low—around 3.3 MB at its peak.

In any case, the app frees me from needing my MacBook. Since I store my tons of samples in the cloud, it’s perfect.

If I had any improvements to suggest, I’d say: more flexibility when importing sounds—being able to choose a folder and create “packages” in Studio Field specifically intended for the OP-1 Field.

We’ve now tested Studio Field with a user on an iPhone 13 using a Lightning connector and Apple’s Camera Connection Kit, and it works as expected. :+1:

So as long as your iPhone supports iOS 26, it should work fine with a compatible Lightning-to-USB adapter/Camera Connection Kit. :rocket:

Hi :victory_hand: i didn’t work for me on iPhone SE (the last model using lightning) and iOS 26, the OP-1 field recognizes the host but won’t start MTP or even DISK modes, using an Apple USB-C to Lightning cable, i tried a few times but no success.
