Battle 45 - Birthday Surprise

6 days left til the deadline people - I feel we may need an extension on this?

Why did my 5 year old have to choose a bloody death star birthday cake - drawing concentric circles on Sketch is like the 10 tasks of hercules!

My track was inspired by getting Link’s Awakening for Game Boy Color on my 10th or 11th birthday. My birthday is 16 June which made my tempo 94 and my trick sample into sequencer. it includes a sample of me singing “you,” an acid style line made in D synth, sub bass, drums and for the sample into sequencer trick I sampled a weird drum and horns section, which I played in arp than sampled, some strange italian horror soundtrack that I played in the sketch sample, sent into a mxr micro flanger than into my mixer than into the line out, with feedback, because of course the op-1 plugged into the mixer and the line out would do that. it sounded insane, I really liked it. the last thing I resampled was a drum fill, I guess, that was 3 hits played in the tombola sequencer, then saved and played in logic so I could add a bitcrusher to it than recorded into the synth sampler. There was also the same Alessandro Blonksteiner sample played straight in towards the end where the time signature increases. hopefully using some external stuff sparingly will be allowed, otherwise i’m just happy to try some really weird new stuff out, i learnt a bunch with this battle which was awesome.

134 bpm, live sample rec to sequencer.

recorded sound its a lighter

awesome entries @Servando and @curdledgurled!!

@curdledgurled I think you’ve just scraped within the rules, as it did allow external samples. The MXR trick is probably rrrrright on the brink of the rules, as all mixing is supposed to be within the OP1, but I don’t think it’s so drastic that it’s a problem! You used it more like an insert than anything. @Edzilla can also jump in as the other host of this battle if he thinks it’s too close!

looking forward to hearing more stuff!

I see no problem at all, nice tracks guys!

What does everybody think about extending this a little more, at least through this weekend?

I recorded lighting a match and pitched it down as an intro

I'm really sorry that I keep making goth music at you guys. It's just what comes out.
This one is pretty cheesey, but it was hilariously fun to make.

Does anybody still need time to finish up a track they are working on?

I would need too much time to finish and be happy with the result. The op-1 came one week ago and I am still learning it (I feel like back in the days with my gameboy)…
my fascination for the op-1 and this forum was and is mainly because of the battles! So hope to see everybody in future battles!

A 2 day extension in a battle its fine. Extra extensions are not…

if no much more people turns out, it means that there is no much interest in the topic… We should move on and keep doing battles often, I think…
