So sad to hear that.

All I can hope is for their support to be reactive and constructive.
Reactive, meaning they answer fast with a quick-responsive solution.
Constructive, meaning they acknowledge the packaging problem and donā€™t ship a new unit the same way so it arrives broken too.

What a messy release.
2023 is really a hit and miss year for TE. At the very least, Iā€™d be curious to see how this affected the trust in their brand. Not even sure this whole debacle is even scratching their reputation.

Anyhoo.

Iā€™ll update if anything happens!

Hello everybody, itā€™s been a while since I messaged here, hope everyoneā€™s well!

I was super excited to see the news about the KOII and also bought one too. It arrived yesterday andā€¦ unfortunately, itā€™s fadergate for me too. For me, the symptoms are that moving fader down to the bottom sometimes triggers it to light up the bottom two indicators and erratically flip between two numbers on the screen, but sometimes sweeping the fader up and down does nothing at all. Iā€™ve not managed to get it to function properly in terms of reliably controlling the volume, fx or any of the functions above the pads.

Since I bought it directly from TE, Iā€™ve filled out their Warranty and Repair form with lots of information and hope to hear from them soon. Shame, it looks like a fun device!

How much did it come to in total with the tax? Iā€™m in the UK and have also ordered from TE direct and paid my Ā£249. Iā€™m just curious how much more will be added on.

I was charged Ā£75.52 from UPS for taxes.

Okay, basically Ā£325 instead of Ā£300. Not too bad I guess.
Would be nice to have it for Christmasā€¦

I was charged the same amount, Ā£63.32 in tax and the Ā£12.20 brokerage fee, which I always forget about.

Brexit dividends eh

After paying the duties I now have the device in my grubby mitts. Yes the fader cap was very tight and yes of course I videoed the unboxing and checking the fader worked before gently persuading the cap into place.
It (the cap) sits a little proud and Iā€™m okay with that. The power switch is quite stiff.
Everything works. I suspect and hope T.E will be making slight modifications to the next run of instruments.

Gotta say Iā€™m quite taken with the Delay effectā€¦can see me sampling that into other devices.
Also looking forward to some firmware additions.

USB power noise isā€¦well itā€™s horrid isnā€™t it. Iā€™ve got a suppressor somewhereā€¦or Iā€™ll try an old phone charger if battery life is poor.

Early daysā€¦weā€™ll see if itā€™s a keeper once Iā€™ve given it a darn good thrashing.

Just got mine yesterday! I love it. However, I have a MIDI keyboard going into the back of it over 5 pin and I know the midi signal is going out of the male end of the TRS end of the midi cable because when I put it into the input, I can hear the on off clicks that midi makes. When I put it into the midi in jack on the back of the device, nothing happens! Maybe itā€™s a quick menu dive that Iā€™m missing, canā€™t find it in the manual etc. PLEASE HELP I want to play with a keyboard

i think i read about this in the manual, but canā€™t quite remember. go to the user manual on their site iā€™m pretty sure they address this explicitly!

Boom bap on EP-133 for latest smack pack challenge from ski beats. Super fun this machine, absolutely perfect for my workflow! If TE gives us project management with the sample upload tool itā€™s a wrap Iā€™ll never use anything else. Jacob on Instagram: "#smackpackvol18challenge thank you @skibeatz for putting these together, @realnormansann for the slick bars, @teenageengineering and @strandbergguitars for the tools of the trade. Thanks to my beautiful wife @stephanievancak for putting up with my noise making and addiction to musical instruments :) Had a ton of fun making this beat with my son Shiloh supervising and giving creative insight, much love šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ™šŸ¼ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø"

I found these two videos quite informative:

Good, thoughtful critiques.

I saw that but it doesnā€™t go into the menu diving this guy does here which doesnā€™t fix the problem for me either :frowning: https://youtu.be/8GSlP7TpR2U?si=jBFm80c8V9C9QZi5&t=1330

Could it be wrong kind of MIDI TRS cable? There are different types. I think in the user guide, it says K.O.II wants type A.

ah true. iā€™m totally new to this i didnā€™t think the kind of trs mattered. how can you tell if your trs can handle midi signal or not?

most companies specify which polarity their TRS midi is setup to accept
type A or type B
(type A is supposed to be the industry standard)

its not about the TRS cable (any TRS cable should work)
but moreso how the device (or the TRS to MIDI DIN dongle adapter) is wired

if the company doesnā€™t specify or u canā€™t seem to find that info
then maybe take a device u already have that u know its polarity or type and try it.

if u really canā€™t tell then one way to find out for sure would be to bust out your multimeter
and see whats connected to what.

type A would be TRS TIP to DIN pin 5. TRS RING to DIN pin 4.
type B would be flipped so TIP to pin 4. RING to pin 5.

TE finally responded to my return request, still waiting on a label. The fact they have no phone number advertised is beyond arrogant. Their silence is disturbing. I worked in the Pro Audio industry for years as a reseller and a buyer. I see both sides but when a product fails, with no comms, shit sticks. Big regret buying this direct from them, I should have waited. Spoke to the UK supplier who were oblivious to fadergate, once I mentioned they said uh-oh, we just shipped out loads to the resellers. My old boss would have referred to these as Ā£300 boomerangs. Eventually things will be sorted. Have to be positivešŸŽ…

Nice!

Still waiting for the RMA here - and since I bought from a reseller too, Iā€™m a bit afraid to be less of an emergency at the moment.

One thing Iā€™d add, tho.
Today, to everyoneā€™s surprise, a representative from TE, David, made a quick appearance in the Elektronā€™s forum.
I managed to ask him about RMAs and packaging. He was adamant that the packaging was a problem (although some users think the issue was just a bad batch of faders) and that RMAs will have an updated package.
He also stated that first thing tomorrow, they will assess the situation on the RMAs, based on the order they were delivered.
Hereā€™s hope this mess gets sorted out quickly.

If you get the chance, go over at the Elektronauts forum and youā€™ll easily find his comments.
Not saying this makes up for anything. But thatā€™s a start. And everyone was polite enough so the thing was civil.

Cheers!
