New OP-1 Field 😮

i’ve been on this forum for awhile now
3 iterations now back when it was operator-1 and even before that when it was ohpeewon

i cant recall ever seeing any post or thread about stuck keys on the OG

Got a reply yesterday:

ā€˜looking at the picture and video, it looks like a production fault, which isn’t up to our standards. we think the best thing to do is to replace the unit.

hopefully you won’t have to be too long without your field, we can ship replacements much quicker than your original order took to arrive!ā€˜

Any luck? I just discovered that even when unplugged, it seems to remember the yeti under Shift+Com LIST - maybe you can enable power in here? I don’t remember what I did to get mine to work.

interesting! i’ll check that this morning. i think it might be the apple dongle i’m using. do you mind sharing which passive adapter you’re using?

edit: i do have the entry under shift + com, but still no luck with powering from the field.

About extend OP-1 Field with connections:

I connected simultaneously to the field:

  • El Gato Wave 3 via usb c (working great)
  • Korg NanoKeys Studio via BLE (working great)
  • OP-1 with CME WIDI via BLE (no clock via BLE)

No success at this moment with unpowered usb hubs. I haven’t tested with a powered one. I try to be as power independent as i can with the idea of get a portable setup.

I can connect the mic powered with battery to the TX-6 (mic has monitor out TRS) and connect the OP-1 via USB to the Field.

I’m considering going for a more portable mic such as a Tula Mic which has its own battery, sounds real good an is extremely portable.

About nanokeys: I would like to sync both OP-1 and have control from nanokeys studio both, but I’m still searching for the better way to do it. Any suggestions ?

What are you using the mic for?

I’m using it for voice effects and chops when I’m away from the studio (i have a Shure MV7 there). For field recording i use a Zoom H6.

I’ve read that the mic in the Field is great. Have you compared it?

I don’t have my old OP-1 hear to A/B it, but I found the OG mic terrible and thought it had ver low gain (maybe mine was defective?)

This one is waaaay better. Actually useable!

The new mic is indeed great - however it’s like me of the few things in OP-1 Field which is mono.

A query to those new OP-field owners; why isn’t anyone using the ā€˜decksaver’ that comes free inside the packaging? The layer you lift off the unit on which the cable/velcro sits? Custom made, no?

Cause it’s not as kewl as a deck saver  but honestly it’s a good alternative for the time being

it’s not nearly as protective as a decksaver. it feels like a bit of cardboard.

AHH, thought it was thin plastic.

Hey @panicmap when you use your nanoKey Studio with the OP-1f via bluetooth, do you have an issue entering chords into endless sequencer? It seems to have a weird bug for me where it the number on endless stays at zero after i press shift + a chord on the nanoKey Studio.

this may have changed on the field so apologies if i’m wrong
but on the OG u can’t use a MIDI controller to enter notes into any sequencer

actually, i can’t enter notes nor chords from external midi controller into sequencer

I tried having a particularly complex arp from my OP-Z go into the endless sequencer on the OP-1f to no avail :frowning:

The ā€œworkaroundā€ I found was to plug my Keystep into my OP-Z midi input, then connect the OP-Z to the OP-1f via USBC, and it kinda works that way, but still no sequence editing via MIDI. Just allows me to record a complex set of notes more easily on the OP-Z and then use that to control the Field.

Some interesting features mentioned, although he is factually wrong about several things:

I don’t understand the editing on his videos. He’ll all the sudden just pop up on the screen. It’s pointless. Although he’s not the only YouTuber that does this. Just keep the camera on the gear! And yes, a lot of them get the facts wrong. Some of these guys have 7k-10k subscribers and they sometimes seem like they don’t have a complete grasp on the gear. I just DON’T get it.
