New OP-1 Field 😮

I believe that channel is a music store that he works at, but he also has his own channel - and that the particular video is actually cut down from a much longer live stream. That could explain some of the editing. I intend to do a bunch of OP-1 Field videos but so far I’ve uploaded exactly nothing, so at least he’s getting the content out there

I hear you on this, I frequently hear YouTubers make what i think are basic errors or don’t know basic things about what they’re talking about.

Like calling the Roland boutiques analog (I know the se-02 is, but they were referring to JU-06A)
Or all kinds of issues TE gear (notably the op-1)

I get that it’s cool to like show things as you’re learning so you can document your journey and meet people where they might be at in theirs, but all too often they come off as knowing what they’re talking about when they don’t.

that’s why I jumped off social media, way too much outward projection of things people aren’t.

Personally, I’m catching these factual errors (misinformation) and I still don’t feel qualified or the desire to make videos on the gear I have. I’d much rather ask or answer a question here. I always get an answer and don’t have to deal with ads, sponsored content, or ego’s and dreams of YouTube fame bumping up against what I’m trying to figure out.

I do like when people post videos including their process of making music on a device, that always helps me learn about the workflow of said device.

how many videos do we need of someone monotonously explaining every knob function of every sequencer on the OP-1F, just actually use it and you’ll figure that out pretty quick.

Anyway wow, I had a couple beers and decided to double down on this topic :joy::joy: I’m going to go lay on the couch with my field

I almost got caught up in wanting to do those kinds of videos and don’t get me wrong, they definitely have their place. But in the end I just decided to make videos of me making music on different pieces of gear or doing little experiments (koma field kits, polyene tracker, op-1, OT, and now I have 3 videos with the op-1f). They’re not designed to grab viewers/subscribers, nor do they have catchy thumbnails for the algorithm. They’re just out there in case someone wants to see the instrument being used (with no talking or seeing me- the horror).

I’m still learning about the differences in regards to upgrading, what was he wrong about?

Switching reels doesn’t change sound until you either arm or start recording. He didn’t do either while ā€œdemoingā€ tape modes.

I have to say that the possibility to listen to the tape sound while jamming when you arm the recorder (shift+rec) is freaking cool.

It reminds me that another cool thing I thought about would have been to be able to record to the album and in the same time to record to tape

I have an OP1-f question which I hope is simple - didnt want to start a whole new thread for it but let me know if that would be the better thing to do.

I’ve got some really odd behaviour where everything in the Drum section has some kind of repeat echo going on.
I’ve turned of the FX under the 3 key but the repeat is still there.
I presume I am missing something but it is driving me nuts.

Any ideas please?

As a new OP-1 user, what fools me sometimes is when I forget that the sequencer is on and I can’t figure out why the sounds are playing weird. This has produced similar results to what you’re experiencing, maybe worth a look.

Thanks for the swift response @AMB - that was one of the first things I tried but it isn’t that unfortunately.
It seems like I have managed to turn on some kind of slight delay effect somewhere in the chain. It only seems to be effecting the drums as far as I can tell.
I thought there might be some kind of master FX selection somewhere but I either cant find it or I’m looking in the wrong places.

I’ll try a trawl though the manual again (although so much is glossed over that I dont always find the manual of much use…sign!).

Some kind of weird lfo? but if it applies to all your drums makes no sense.

Gotcha. Maybe it actually is a master effect? That wold of course affect all sounds from all sources not just the drums…

if all else fails, couldn’t hurt to try a factory reset ?

fwiw, there is a master fx. press the mixer button, then button 3 (the one under the screen) to toggle it on/off. press shift + 3 to change master fx.

Check the loop setting with Shift+orange encoder. Also, check envelope settings under page 2. Make it flat and see if your issue goes away.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Really appreciate them.

The prize goes to @mat - somehow I had managed to enable Grid as a master effect and I had it set up such that it only seemed to be effecting the drums (actually staccato sounds which is why I didnt notice it on anything else).
I have no idea how I got to the master mix page before as it is not something I ever used on my OP-1 (first gen).

Anyway - now turned off and all is back to normal.

Thanks again everyone - and sorry for the sidetrack.

I had a similar issue I had all the effects off … but it was distorted with a a kind of gain effect…. I turned the op1 field of and on and it was back to normal… slightly worrying

How long did it take? I just took mine out the box and tried every key several times. The same key as yours and the one to the right of it got stuck and has a bit more resistance to them when pressed on mine. Been playing with it for 6 hours now and those keys have loosened up a bit, I pressed them very slowly to feel what was happening. Feels like they are slightly improperly seated and sometimes get snagged on the corners. They kinda softened up and stopped getting stuck. i sometimes get double notes, but i think that’s just the general design. Gonna ask TE if it keeps happening, and if there is a general fix.

interesting to hear about your experiences- for me it was somehow kind of the opposite of what you experienced so far… i received mine, played with it for 2 weeks and everything was perfect. then out of nowhere the key started sticking. but your comment here inspired me to work on that key and see how it goes. it still blows my mind that a $2k machine has issues with stuck keys…

Over design versus practicality. If this thing actually had a better key bed, it would probably be 5000$.
It is also a brand new product and there will be bugs in the beginning. I bet TE are doing their best to help out people that have legit problems.
