OP-1 Blog

@LAUNE can you fix the link in your post? It's coming up as a dead link. Some people might want to take advantage of the offer.

thanks, stme, link is fixed!

@wingo Someone has been tagging the neighborhood with your name surrounded by stylized equal signs. =wingo=

It’s strange to see Craigslist ads of synthesizers for sale all around me. Perhaps I’m not as rare a bird as I thought. Who are these people?

I kind of miss that odd and sometimes rude guy, @WeirdBangN from the old forum. He offered colorful insights when choosing to be positive.

@spacetravelmadeeasy - how are you liking your NI gear? which Instruments/Effects have you been gravitating to if any? have you found Maschine 2.0 easy to use or are you using it as a plug in in Live mainly? and are you using a Maschine or Maschine Studio?

@kln to be truthful I haven’t delved much into Maschine2.0 or Komplete 9.

I got 2.0 update and K9 in the last major sale and had been holding out installing it onto computer until i had a change of a fresh install which I only did the other month.

In the past I used Maschine 1.8 for drums though and have as a plugin in Ableton Live. Maybe when I try 2.0 i might use it more standalone but i doubt it for studio purpose anyway as I like working in Ableton Live.

I’ve got K9 and a load of other plugins from NI that I wanted and bought in previous sales without having to shell out for Ultimate

What I really like about maschine is all the expansion packs - i grab them when on sale. Lots of pre-programmed drums especially that make starting a track easy without getting too lost in drums at the start. then when you get into a song you can go in and tweak to your own spec and beats.

It’s a Maschine Mk2 I have. I used to have a Mikro which I found frustrating due to lack of knobs, then I won the Mk2 maschine by designing a faceplate
I don’t think necessarily that the studio is needed. its fine if you have the space. If you were wanting to take sometthing out gigging the maschine standard would be best bet

Great sounds, effects, plugins etc from NI. Solid stuff.
Have had a little play with Monark which is beautiful.

Sorry I couldnt be more help. I do plan on really getting my head into all K9 and probably maschine 2.0 too to see what its all about.

Haha @Lymtronics that is awesome! I wonder who this mysterious compatriot of my mine is. I may have to adopt the cool stylization.

By the way, which sequencer you use the most for programming drums? I like pattern mode the most, but it is only 1 bar long. I really don’t like the finger mode that much and the endless is way too hard for me. I just wish I could do longer patterns in pattern mode.

i use endless at times for drum pattern sequencing, but mostly i like to use finger and get a group of at least 3 patterns that work well together and use them 1 or two at a time with the monkeys set to “join” mode. for example one monkey plays kick/snare/tom, then after 2-4 bars or so the other monkey comes in with hats/cymbols/shaker or other accompanying sounds. then after another 8 bars or so drop out one monkey or the other, or change one or both monkeys to another finger pattern. figure out how you want to time your changes then press record and start your first sequence.

@spacetravelmadeeasy - i have had Maschine for almost two years (also a MK2), along with Komplete. i was just curious about how you found their products and what you liked best about them and if you were using Maschine Studio. it came out very soon after i started really understanding the Maschine workflow of scenes, etc…and have grown to like it.

i like the expansion packs as well (when on sale), although i always delete the preset midi notes, and change out different drum sounds, since i want to avoid a “canned” sound. i also have found using FM8, Massive and Prism quite rewarding. Monark is also pretty deep.

i’ve tried integrating the set up into Logic and it worked well too. since i’ve invested time in Logic, i haven’t tried Live.

coming from a MPC-2000XL, Maschine definitely feels comfortable. but i still am more productive with the OP-1 than anything else.

i also find Traktor better than Serato. if only there was more time in a day to work on DJ sets and original creations. it’s time consuming to quantize and set beat markers on tracks. i’ve made a few dope remix sets for F1, but hard to stay focused when so many of my tracks need to be properly beat-synced. i’ve seen the short-cut tutorials, but still takes too long for me to get down with it regularly. also had a few laptop config issues, as the software seemed sluggish on the Mac i had. and since i upgraded haven’t found the time to delve in deep.

I’ve been circling getting an OP-1 for three years now, and I’m finally at a point where I feel comfortable enough picking it up (cash-wise and creativity-wise). I turn 27 in a couple of weeks, and finally feel like it is time to quench this thirst.

^doo it.

Couple of reasons for me saying so:

Life’s too short.
It’s only money.
Learning new skills is invaluable.

I guess sentences like these get repeated to the point of being cheesy for a reason.

@shipwreckdetective, you make me think of me! I am 29, I was thinking about getting one for 3 years, listening and watching a lot of vids about the OP-1 and finally decided to buy one a few months ago for the same reasons you are considering getting one. And it is the best purchase I did in term of music gear! Lots of fun, portable and very well made, plus the endless possibilties (sequencing, sampling, playing, creating sounds, etc!).

i am breking my balls to gather 204 euros for paying TE for my Slutty OP-1 resuraction .

Ah also i like to point out that GOD or god does not exist ,it was only a book (good written though ).
Long live nature and its creatures

So I’ve been poking around with Elektron Rytm and A4 with their sequencers and just came back to the OP-1 and whoa!

@thor Amen !
So nicely put

N.A.T.O (NOT ABLE TO ORGANIZE) no more>so i traded my rare polivoks mixer for a Shruthi and then I sold that for paying TE repair operation(DSP GORGEOUSLY DEAD ,USBITCHIN DEAD ALSO ).and now shitttt i seat and waiting …

Whats love got to do with it ?

Very busy with the Analog Rytm these days. Much fun

+ Just received E.M.M.A. Rainbow Dust EP, I love it !

mamma is dead

but before she died
mamma said knock you out

I’ve noticed that I almost never use my OP-1 extensively with other things despite having an Oplab. I sample stuff, record things, but that’s it really. And that’s okay! I just really don’t like the OP-1 “in the studio” for some reason. I work best with it in a very minimal sort of way, it seems; anything else just gets in the way for me.

Made a lovely ethereal ambienty thing on my morning break using Digital. Then I used Dsynth to make a choppy/glitched bed to spread around using the LFO on the filter/orange knob and Phone (glorious Phone, I want a plugin of Phone). If TE released a stereo FX box with the OP-1 effects I would deal with the preorder madness we did with the POs to have it lol…

Yes phone plugin!!!

Just had email confirmation that my ACID8 is now built and is making it’s way from France to me!
F*CK YEAH!!!
