they also added the terminal effect, one of my favorites, you can get some very interesting tones from it. i’m double-crossing my fingers that terminal will get added to the og-1 one day, along with the hidden filter effect of the og-1. i won’t hold my breath about that, but i love both machines still. my desert island machines

I think it’s really odd when users are essentially arguing against the value of continued product support via firmware updates. To those users you are very lucky because you can just keep your device on whatever legacy firmware you like but for the rest of us I think it really isn’t too much to expect at least 1 update per year. If you are a company that makes electronic instruments then you are well aware of how users like updates. It is what makes electronic instruments special. These devices can be creatively expanded upon with just a bit of code unlike an analog synth. With those new firmware releases comes added functionality and renewed interest and creative usage of your device. This in turn drives up coverage and exposure and is a good thing all around. It’s not like TE isn’t creative enough to come up with ways to expand the op1-f and if they are they can always just read through this post for ideas or read over the many requests sent to them by users such as myself. In some cases the requests are focused on things that should already work but don’t like clock over ble or how incoming lfo midi messages aren’t correctly displayed on screen for the values they are controlling or how you can’t save several of the sequencers in a project. I love their products and they did a spectacular job continuously adding features to the tx-6 but they have been pretty lackluster with updating the op-1f. I really think they should have offered the update when they lowered the value of the device as a show of good will and I am still hoping they are interested in this device and release something cool because while it is terrific it can definitely be improved.

i don’t think anyone is arguing against having updates. i’m personally arguing against getting all upset over some mental gymnastics people create in their own head about whatever version of reality they want to exist.

i’m not trying to be mean or pick a fight, but you are doing it yourself again here when you write “I think it really isn’t too much to expect at least 1 update per year.” that’s what you want to happen. unless TE said somewhere “we aim to provide at least 1 update per year” then you are just setting yourself up for trouble.

we have to go on what is real, not what is fantasy. i bought my op-1f and thought there probably would be some updates. if there weren’t any, that was on me seeing as how TE never said anything that i ever saw about op-1f updates. beyond that, i got me some updates. were they what i wanted? i guess so? they were updates. so i guess that covers it. are there features i wish the device had that it doesn’t have now? yes. but i’m not like making up rules in my head and then complaining about TE when they don’t follow those rules.

there was one quote i read somewhere from TE, that i can’t find right now, that said something like we supported the original op-1 for 10 years and we will support the op-1f for the next ten years. but that doesn’t put any concrete metric on frequency or types of firmware updates.

so i know everyone wants firmware updates. and i know everyone wants the features they want. and its cool to talk about what features are missing. but for people to be like i’m done with TE because they didn’t deliver whatever thing i cooked up in my head… its just stupid.

It’s funny. Your entire post is proving all our points and you are really just arguing with yourself.

I’m not even sure what you are upset about….that we have opinions, can dream, and ask for more (while simultaneously still saying we are satisfied and happy with the op1f)?

Good luck.

This is pretty stupid I’ll give you that.

@jpt @Jpilarski ok you all win. i’ll join you in being mad about there not being an update. where is that dang update already?!?

is it so hard to just get some little quality of life upgrades?? i mean they put op-1f on sale and you would think that as a gesture to those who bought it at full price in the past years they would at least drop an update? this is just taking the piss now, no regard for their customer base.

i’d also love it with some new effects and synths. can’t understand why there isn’t 8 stereo tracks out via usb. i think i’m done with TE. they are just screwing us over. obviously they care about the XY more now and that’s why we don’t get any of the op-1f updates that we deserve.

i’m with you! fun thread!

I think the OP-1f was actually very full featured on launch compared to the OP-1. Therefore, there were not too many updates just after it went on sale. The software side was probably ready before the hardware in that particular case.

Sure, it is nice to have a new feature every once in a while (aren’t we lucky!) but we can’t expect it in most cases. (I’m a software dev myself)

Certainly there are times when the software was obviously not quite there on release that we would expect some updates. This would be the case with the OG OP-1 and the OP-XY…and even the -Z.

I think the current state of the OP-1f is actually much more polished than anything at the moment and if I were TE, I’d put my software guys on other things first, unless they were bored (!) or had some wacky idea.

If they only add 1 new feature to the op1 field it should be an auto crossfade on tape edits to avoid pops and clicks!

I would totally be down for this because literally EVERYONE mentions this. Is it a high priority for me? No, but it would mean TE is listening.

Yeah, the OP-XY was not in any way ready for release. Still, nine months later, too many bugs. I gave up on it, traded for a Push 3 SA.

I really like the OP-1f, it just needs a little love.

When will it walk my dog ? FFS😅

Perform in sequences by playing them into the finger sequencer, an hability to build them up, since u czn play two why not have a mode where u can build one upon the other as a progression mor synth engines…. We need MORE effects , classic like pingpong delay, chorus, distortion, flanger, granular delay… , the hability to use TWO effects per synth, and two master fx… and finally id add FX and EQ per track …. Then stuff like SILENT FX BROWSING and ways to mana i would also like more tracks but that i can live without…

I agree… i love my’op-1f i wznt more updates sure… but they re already pissing me off bigtime by their negligence to it…..not sure if i will buy any of their products because im now on the fence about most of it.. if they did regular updates it would be dreamworld… they have very lottle amount of actually serious synths… id say that op-1f n xy given the price should get constant updates

I like my OP-XY but I often wonder about the Push 3 standalone.. I mean the synths alone on the Push are other level compared to the OP-XY. I may end up grabbing that over the next year…

I don’t want to hijack the thread but I am really enjoying the Push 3. I have not been an Ableton user so I like that the computer isn’t necessary once the content is loaded. It’s not hard to learn so far, fun to use and does a lot. It is a big machine, though, so if portability matters the OP-XY is better.

How do you feel about the op1F synths? Do you like them/find them adequate ?

John while I got your attention, what would YOU want to see in the future op1F updates ?

Lately I’ve been digging deep into Serum 2 and it blows my mind what it can do.. It made realize how simple the Op-1 Field and even more so the OP-XY synths are. I know this is like comparing apples to oranges but I wish we could have one synth on each of the synths where we could really go deep into synthesis. I think I would pay 3k if they made a OP-1 field 2 with sound capabilities like the Digitone 2… To answer your second question question - it would be a granular fx!!! What would like to see added on the op-1f?

Great reply , thanks

Yeah I’m with you on a granular addition! That would be very appreciated and unique

I think maybe one would be in the minority for the op-2f at $3k lmao but I def wouldn’t mind a op-2 at the same time - there are always sales or used

Best
