I’m really happy with this one. It’s a drum ‘n’ bass track, mainly relying on a sample of rainforest birds, reversed and pitched down with different loop points for weird ambience set against fairly relentless breakage, sometimes layered, sometimes at half time. Lots of fun!

i played a set yesterday at providence porchfest. unfortunately the rain and wind moved me inside and it was an “unofficial” set but it was super fun all things considered! here’s a video clip and a link to the full live set!

yes i did, amp with LFO on gain from 0-20 or so to add some very slow variation in phrasing etc. sounded great i must say! no preamp no nothing, just cable into op1f!
Back in April I made this one evening, for a comp Novak The Enjoyer was running. The requirements were 1-1.5 minutes only, and only stock sounds or engines - no external samples or from other gear etc. so those requirements were interesting I thought, and I made this.
Cool, part of me wonders what’s in those little blips right after your piece…

Ahh! On the tape? I think main section parts copied there preventatively.
I will check when I’m at home.
Can’t remember if undo existed when I did this or not, but old habits die hard. I’ll often copy sections elsewhere to keep a copy, before merge/mix drop, in case I want the separate parts later to redo something.
It wasn’t! Drums more or less the same, but a different synth sound… was going to be part of another section but it couldn’t be longer anyway, so I ended it differently without going off into this other section first.

Thanks. Yeah the OG had something special. I do miss mine a little… and I never finished the chopper game either. But the truth was I couldn’t afford to keep both and I find the extra features in the field so useful.
I know it’s only a snippet/loop of a track I made on the Field, but I love using this as a multitrack recorder. Here’s some chilled stuff made at the beach.
What you are seeing this in is the new version of OP-PatchStudio I’m building out. It has a tape editor tool for OP-1 and Field tapes and can even convert between them. You can cut, copy, paste, splice and use advanced audio editing tools and even record over tracks in the app, or add new samples too and then export back to the OP-1.

I recently discovered how much fun you can have with the OP-1F combined with the XY for live improvisation. I tend to store a whole bunch of tape snippets on the OP-1 and short loops on the XY that aren’t really candidates for building into full songs. But when you keep track of the key, you can DJ mix all those scattershot ideas into sets of any length. What’s also great is that with the Field as clock master, you can just stop the XY, load a new track, and latch it back into the set by pressing play on the Field.
