OP1 Field tracks

this is one I had recorded before clearing the decks for Battle. lol

Hey everyone. Totally new to this forum but I’ve spent a bunch of time perusing the comments. When I picked up the field, I knew that I wanted to write a bunch of synth pop with it that incorporated some live instrumentation with the built in engines. I didn’t see too many examples of this type of music being recorded so I figured the OP-1f would be a bit of a gamble. I’ve been challenging myself to record full tracks on the OP-1f and embrace my idiosyncratic performances, and I’ve been really inspired and productive with it thus far. I just thought I’d share something because maybe someone else is also wondering about recording live instruments into the OP-1. It’s a bit rough around the edges.

**Recorded on the Porta Tape for those nice rolled off highs.

The forum looks a little dead but here is a new video

I made this Brian Wilson/Paul McCartney inspired song based on something I was hammering away on the piano. The lyrics I wrote about some worms I found on the concrete.

I didn’t track to metronome but I’m stoked how the drums and tape compression help glue it all together.

It has been awhile since I’ve had this much fun with the recording process. There is something to say about tracking music this way makes the processes way more playful.v

I love the grain that the vocoder brings to this track.

This is some sort of slightly disturbing ambient, mostly done by tape manipulation and weird LFO tricks to stretch samples, plus the endless sequencer in random mode. It’s bounced a couple of times.

forgot to add may own drum kits and samples before having a little time with the OP, so used all stock OP-1 Field sounds to build this sketch

I really enjoyed that. It’s an inspiring, minimal sound, making the most of the effects without over-using them.

This one deliberately shows clicks caused by edits with long reverb tails.

Another one. This is really disturbing.

This one shows the quality of the OP1 Field, with the Mother reverb used on the sampled choir voices at 100% wet signal, and then applied again onto the master track. It’s all completely improvised. I adjusted the tape speed when recording and mastering.
