PO-20 arcade, PO-24 office, PO-28 robot

my arcade is way louder using its built in speaker than the office or robot. anyone else experience this as well? or did i get a bad office and robot? i can barely hear robot with the volume all the way up using its speaker…

@Eti - it’s not often I’m moved to say I really LOVE a tune someone has done on the forum, but this one does it for me. There is only one thing that I’d change (probably just that I’m a bassist)…I’m not sure if it’s intentional, but the bass is awkwardly (to my ears) behind the beat. I think this wee tune would be unbeatable if you brought the bass onto the beat.

Super cool, Eti. How did you make the song, did you chain lots of patterns? Is there ways/tricks to mute certain PO’s once they’re in linked sync mode?

The arcade has some epic mutng functionality built in. Makes it very easy to live perform in the device standalone. Yes I bought one. It is epic. 100% an upgrade over the originals.

Aaaaa got my Arcade yesterday. too much fun…

It has a remarkable property by which no matter how terribly annoying a sequence I try to make (e.g. random spamming the vibrato sound), it always somehow sounds good…

And wow, that is just so cool about how Linus Akesson was onboard with these…

I was enthralled years ago with his AVR chiptune project, it’s just so cool to learn that the Arcade is in the same vein…

bought my po-20 yesterday and havent put it down!!! literally woke up holding it

some cool things i noticed about it:
you can place a sticky effect before you even press play… like if you want to start a sequence on only drums or only drums and no bass FX + 3 or 4 and then Play. a nice way of easing into a drone effect or what have you

learning how to program chords can be a little tricky but once you get the hang of it you learn the sweet spots

also,(something i havent seen anyone comment on yet) when youre selecting a chord, the chord type scrolls past on the display inside the cabinet. this makes it much easier to find the chord youre looking for or just remembering which buttons contain which chords. much easier than looking through the instructions like i did all day yesterday.

if youre on the fence about buying a PO start with this one. A++++

Thanks @cloudburst, I’m blushing. I kept the pattern and may eventually take your advice and put that bass on the beat, thank you!

It’s only two patterns: the first one you hear is there until the melody starts. You can place a sticky effect before you press play, this is what I did:
-first pattern with the effect muting everything but the drums
-first pattern with the effect matting everything but drums and bass

  • first pattern with one more element (so no more muting effect
  • second pattern (basically same as first pattern with the melodic element added)
  • second pattern with drone

And some drum fills and filter effects, that’s it.

Really, if you liked my song you should wait until those little things fall in the hands of a good musician/producer!

Thanks for the breakdown, Eti. My PO-20 is in transit and I ordered a PO-28 last night on the strength of its cool lead sounds.

@Eti please consider adding this track to the forum’s Music Critique Club:

@cloudburst Good idea! So first I will try to comment on two tracks this evening

@Eti track is amazing! Really enjoyed that.

Another Arcade tip: you can get some very pretty altered chords with the 10 and 11 arpeggio sounds.

The first arp sound, the pitch knob just changes the octave and inversion of the chord.

But the second two arpeggios, you can actually add an arbitrary note from the scale. non-chord-tones can make for some really interesting harmonies.

Thank you! I am lucky to be one of the first to do a complete track with the Arcade and Robot so I don't have to be compared to the real pro ;). When some serious guys will start working with those two (and more) we will get a lot of nice tracks to listen to. And I'm looking forward to :)

Am I the only one interested in the Office? I really want to dig into the weird samples, it sounds rough and heavy and I think it would compliment the PO12 very well, which is my favorite one of the first three.

The Arcade sounds awesome because of the massive functionality and sound. Gonna get this one too.

I’m completely disinterested in the Robot. The leads are cool but thats about it…

Im pumped for office. Arcade has the hype and I love the expanded features, but it’s very chip tune specific sounding. I kinda like that Robot is supposed to be a normal VA synth. I guess I’ll see soon…

Honestly, the office has left me really cold (from the videos I’ve watched). I want to really like it, but it seems limited - that’s probably a comment on my creativity though

I’d like to hear how people are getting on after a few months with it.

Can you sync more than 3 units?

The Office seems a bit of a one-trick pony, but I would like to use it on a particular song I’ve had in my head. It reminds me of Björk’s “Cvalda” song with all the industrial equipment samples on the Selmasongs album.

But don’t underestimate the Robot.
