Maybe this isn’t possible but i’m sure TE could figure it out. But i would love to have more functionality on the tape track, or basically transform the tape track into a Looper. With a mic in adapter such as the one DIGDUGDIY made or usb be able to record what’s coming in and loop/overdub like the Blooper guitar pedal. Be able to make the tape longer by setting step length. maybe add a mode in which the encoders do different things to the tape for example
Green = Speed
Blue = cropping the tape
Yellow = WOW
Red = Flutter
hopefully it is possible without a module, but if it does require a module then have the module have more memory and hopefully a proper mic in.
Also hopefully we can finally have a drum synth engine so we can make our own drums :(( Preferably something with the microtonic engine like the PO-32.
I think the frustration comes from it being a selling point of the product, where in actual fact you have to do a lot of work to get your head around how it actually functions. A clear guide or basic instruction beyond the github wiki would be really helpful for people getting into it. Doesn’t need to be a full blown Unity tutorial, just a simple way to get setup and started - without prior experience you can’t really get going with just what has been linked from TE to the github page. In saying that - I think Tobias might have covered some unity stuff in one of the Midnight operator episodes.
once on the tape track you can hold shift to select which tracks will be affected by the tape track and if you then select the module track, you’re able to use it with external Audio.
btw a good looper alternative is the FX track with a Delay set to the longest duration and it will loop the unquantized Audio
I’ve been told to rtfm many times so I’m reading about the Module track and there’s no mention of anything like this so I guess I’m just not getting it. I thought the Module track was midi-related. There is no mention whatsoever of audio or input of sound. Guess I just can’t wrap my head around it.
Two scale suggestions for the config file. Both would make the device more approachable for non-piano-players.
A: I like how the master track lights up the keys of the current musical scale. I would love if there’d be an option to enable this on all synth tracks. Since the functionality is already there this shouldn’t be too hard to implement.
B: The option to manually set a scale on the master track. Then all keys would be locked in that scale and you could play any key on the keyboard and it would be in scale. Like so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEPAYlEXgiQ
I’m curious if TE has plans for additional expansion modules. Personally, I have really been wanting a two input and two output module lately. I often find myself wanting to send one or two tracks to an pedal. It would be so powerful to be able to assign tracks to main headphone output, output 1, output 2, or any combination of them for some interesting mixing options for use with other gear. I’d especially like being able to assign the effects tracks to an I/O pair for use as external sends.
It would also be huge to be able to use the two line inputs for sampling. The mic is great, and the Digdugdiy TRRS splitter is so useful for sampling other pieces of gear (if you have one), but freeing up the main headphone jack to just be a main out would be so freeing. It would also be cool if this allowed some re-sampling somehow.
I would love to have proper Midi sync via USB. The first note on the OP-Z is always delayed if I press start in Ableton. Also Ableton doesn’t start if I push play on the OP-Z.
And I think I saw this in this threat already: Please enable Ableton link connectivity via the app
As you know rebirths propellerheads guys had a very useful cool filesystem so that you can change files between other users or you can make a server like the patternarium in microtonic so that you can up and download some interesting sounding files, what I am trying to say is: use the op-z more like a radio, you can import some cool small files and play them according to your own playlist or a playlist by some of the community. These files should be only readable so that only the owner can change his style of music but everyone who owns an OP-Z could listen to his music on his own OP-Z… sure this works mostly when using OP-Z only and pure with the original samples. But… what if TE integrates placeholder-style, so that these samples are changeable, if you have other samples instead, these will be played instead for example-
So to shorten it in some words, my request is:
radio-style that means: user can hear on his OP-Z a playlist from another person, who made the music
server patternarium: import and export of readable files, only the owner can export his own music to the server, if he likes that other can hear his music on his own OP-Z, you can vote the patternarium music
file system, that works similar like in rebirths propellerheads guys
I own OP-Z and I use it frequently to make some music, but most time I love it just to play the stuff - using it like a trance techno radio, so I hope others would like to use it in that style too?
cheers
PS: the file system consist of the following information, e.g.:
midi track incl. the changeable controls over time, start settings to set up the correct filters, sounds etc, the file is not editable but the owner may write
I’d really like to be able to record loops from iPhone music apps like gadget and zen beats in a similar way that the Octatrack records loops with recorder trigs. So hit play on the z and have it play / record a pre sequenced quantized loop of one shot drum hits, for example, that could be easily autosliced into a drum track. Is it possible to do this already and I’m just missing something?
