Suggestions for TEENAGE ENGINEERING OP-Z

A pause on the sampling would be nice as getting a lot of real world samples using the external mic in all 12 secs is a bit of a scrabble.

Proper fx sends for the trrs input instead of full on/off.

A level from fx 1 into fx 2.

A mixer level for the tape machine.

Also jazz scale in the master transpose would be interesting.

CV LFO and VCA envelope please!

Transient detection in sample mode.
Paid 3rd party synth engines through the app.
Ability to erase all stock content and use that space to store my own sounds.
Multi track output via usb.
Access more slots to save sound plugs using some key combo

  • The step component reference chart being visible on the ios app for the op-z.
  • Having the option to adjust fx when in microphone mode.
  • A module that give you an dedicated line-in.
    -A module that has bluetooth transmitting, receiving & midi.
  • Listening to your patterns when in sample mode.

I’ve been using two Roli Lightpad Blocks as an eight channel mixer for the eight OP-Z tracks and it works great. It’s got me wanting an official TE option with 10 channels (8 for the OP-Z tracks plus 2 additional channels).

This mixer would come with a module which includes 2 inputs for the above 2 additional tracks plus one or two PO sync outs.

The mixer could connect by bluetooth or could plug in to the above module via cable, either would be fine.

This would mean that I wouldn’t need to keep the Bastl Dude in my bag as the above would replace both that and the Lightpad Blocks.

Hughsieman, does the opz power your Roli Lightpad Blocks?

I usually use my iPad as well so I connect the blocks via bluetooth and route the midi via Midimittr so it’s just using the internal batteries on the blocks.

Anyone else wish you could input chords by finding the chord first, then hitting the step? I always wanna find a cool chord, hold, then hit a step. Might sound minor, but I’m often cooking beats on the opz before sleeping in bed, often not looking at the opz unless I need to, haha. Would be cool to have auditory signals for the different shift Param screens too haha. Could get one pf tbe swedish blokes saying ā€œgreenā€ ā€œwhiteā€ haha.

A few suggestions, some I don’t think have been made (but I probably haven’t read all 388 posts!), and lending support to some which have been suggested which I think are great.

  • Be able to mix/overlay from pattern to pattern (not play whole patterns simultaneously). So, nominate a track from a second pattern to play in your first pattern for example play drums from pattern 1 and bring in bass from pattern 2, blending the tracks when live so you can mix into a another song.

  • Cue mute groups in the same way as patterns. Surely simple enough with mixer + play + 1,2,3…0

  • Add mute groups to app mixer interface

  • Hold the tape track and preserve audio loop so it doesn’t constantly write over itself. This would be great for playing back audio fragments after you’ve muted that track

  • On drum tracks be able to customise parameters per sample rather than just by step (so you could effectively mute/filter/tweak different parts of the track)

  • Step components on non-audio tracks

  • Copy notes from track to track

  • Number values for tape parameters, swing etc

  • An EQ?

  • A module with multiple audio outs. I’m sure people would part with good money for this.

These are some of my biggest desires for the OP-Z (and some kind of multi-tracking)

It would be amazing to make use of the light or video track for usable external sequencing, or at the very least, be able to use step components on the CV track.

Also, a simple 3 band EQ, or even single variable Q band EQ per track would be an immense mixing blessing.

Request to add function to step component to play each X from 8 bars (where X is 2-7)
This will ease making polyrhythms within a track.

Here is the limitation for example for 4:5 polyrhythm.

(1)-2-3-4-[5]

(1)-2-3-[4]-5

(1)-2-[3]-4-5

(1)-[2]-3-4-5

Using step component trigger function I could accomplish bar 1 & 4 —— set track length to 5 steps and trigger step [5] every first bar from 4 bars, also for bar 4 —— trigger step [2] every 4th bar from 4 bars… but unfortunately could not find the way to do the same for bar 2&3, where step [4] had to be played every 2nd from 4 bars, and step [3] every 3rd from 4 bars (you can chose to play 1 from 4, 1-2-3 from 4, 2-3-4 from 4)
Jump component helps to make it possible for polyrhythms below 32 steps, but for longer once makes it complicated.

It seems like the op-z doesn’t midi echo an incoming pitchbend signal. I hope this is a bug rather than a dsp limitation or something

OP-Z App in Tutorial mode!
As an OP-Z newbie, the amount of short-cuts is too damn high! So like any video game, a tutorial mode in the app would be awesome! Let’s say I press and hold the track key, a pop-out could show up and show me all possible short-cuts to delete track, change length or what ever.
Further, lets integrate the manual into the app! Learning the OP-Z on the couch it’s been a bit of pain to switch to the browser on my phone, just to re-pair the OP-Z app, as it lost its bluetooth connection.

The ā€œmanualā€ that comes in the box is pretty short, and covers the basics. I know some folks are allergic to reading manuals though :wink:

app already provides a fair mouth of hints when you press some buttons. and there is already manual in the app.


… depends on what kind of game you are into. some games are fun to explore and discover.
