TX-6 mixer

Yes, I agree. I think I was being philosophical about it :stuck_out_tongue:

The flaws I see are the ones mentioned before:

  • Price is pretty steep, makes it an exclusive product, few people will be able to afford it
  • Size seems detrimental to operation, like the OP-Z, despite the portability being an advantage
  • No recording or looping functionality, it almost assumes you need an iPad to use it

But it feels very unique and desirable… I feel that for my OP-1.

All of these are fair points. Using opz makes me ok with the price (if build quality is better) and size (i thought i would hate the tiny thing but…i don’t!)

Personally I wonder:

  • is the select knob is too close to param knobs on track 6 to be usable?
  • why is an adapter (1/4" to 1/8") included as a perk when we’d rather have slim cables included?
  • why does a “field mixer” lack phantom power for usage omni mics?
  • will external midi cc evenyually allow remote control of all mixer params? (not just synth mode)

recording/looping and ability to input modular level signal would be nice but it will still be useful with that

i’m wondering if the former would require slight adjustments to the existing tape effect or more extensive dsp overhaul to create a distinct recording layer

either should be possible via firmware update so we’ll have to wait and see if it’s on the horizon

You could buy more than 36,000 of these for the price of just on micro-blogging social network site.

It does look very neat. If I was travelling and playing gigs a lot I would definitely be interested, dependant on the actual audio quality. Things like momentary mutes / solos (and the crossfader “DJ” mode) seem like they’ve thought about performance aspects.

And so what if they do… :joy:

First time I saw a TR-808 a fell in love with it. It was way before they become popular - I just loved the versatility and the sounds despite the fact that, at the time, they were considered to be very limited and totally unrealistic sounding.
In that particular case history supported me (unlike my love of the Casio VL-tone )

@FrankC thank you for the tip. Even if I dont end up getting a TX-6 this looks like a nifty bit of portable kit. Just read a couple of reviews and the praise seems pretty glowing.
Nice!

Actually one of the only things that gives me pause is the question of the cables. Due to its small size is it going to be difficult to find cables that are slim enough to work with it or will you have to use the TE ones (which aren’t actually available yet it seems).
I know it’s a minor thing…

It’s actually not IMHO if, in fact, no other cables will work and they don’t have sufficient stock ready

PS :: I could’ve sworn they were available last week so maybe they’ve sold out of em

When you say no other cables will work? Is that purely due to the closeness of the sockets?

yeah don’t quote me tho cause nobody really knows for sure and TE language in official docs is quite vague

it is implied but not with specific details

the first mystery i solve when mine arrives will be: do i need new cables to make use of all jacks simultaneously? or not?

It would be pretty disappointing of TE to release something that relies on their own cables and then not supply them in the box.
But I guess they wouldn’t be the first (Did someone say “Apple”).

Not having them in stock makes matters worse…

I’ll be interested to know what you find.
Do you have an ETA for you TX-6 yet?

Based on the timing of my ZM-4 delivery, I think it’ll take one more week to cross the atlantic (eta 5/3)

thats true. every time I look at this device i love it. but its same as loving a new Lamborghini car. low ground clearance, no room for luggage not most practical use of money. how ever , ever super cars haver their market.

@TrashTalk I’d be pretty surprised if no other cables work. Even the audio cable they sell for the OP-Z seems like it should be able to fit

yea u might have to do a lil digging but there are slim 3.5mm cables out there
i have a bunch i got awhile back
auvio is the brand not sure if htey still sell them or not
the sleeve is barely bigger than the actual plug
prolly abotu as slim as u can get
i use them all the time and they still going strong

Thanks for the tips regarding cables - reassuring at least.

Really looking forward to some more people getting their hands on these so they can post some hands-on reviews. Ultimately if the thing is noisy or full of bugs it will be a much bigger downer than the price.

Annoyingly we don’t get more specific dimensions for it, but:

Here’s a picture of the TX-6’s ports

If each 3.5mm jack is ~36 pixels wide, we can use one as a ruler.

~27 pixels between ports.

27/36 is 75%

3.5mm * 1.75 = ~6.125mm

Unfortunately, those KINPS cables from amazon measure 6.3mm

Yep, that looks like 0.175mm of wasted space, riiiiight there

Mind you that’s a rough estimate, and I did leave a few pixels hoping for any sort of gap between plugs, but I think even best case, you might need to file these down a little bit

this is just a showroom computer generated image. it doesn’t have to have absolutely correct measurements :triangular_ruler:

Same difference my guy, being as generous as possible it’s still ~13/16ths of 3.5mm between each, or ~6.343mm.

It’s gonna be tight
