Have to make Hoppipolla on the OP-1 one day (without singing because i sound like a dieing whale)!

Recently I’m gravitating towards chiptunes, which kind of “rediscovered”. I like the genre, because while it uses grid-based composition, the tracks tend to be melodically complex and not very repetitive. They often are very technically impressive, considering what limited devices people use. It’s feels similar to how we (ab)use OP-1 to make it produce entirely uncharacteristic sounds. And chiptune the songs are often upbeat, which seems like a rare thing these days.

I heard some tracks made on TI-82 and was really impressed by the principle of hack. (The music itself isn’t bad either.)

Here is a C64 track I recently found that absolutely blew me away:

I’m beginning to see why SID chips are still so popular. The sounds are excellent.

I picked up a copy of the re release of Gloria Ann Taylor's "Love Is a Hurtin' Thing". The 12" version of the title track is super cool:

Also enjoying a jazz album called "Break Stuff" by the Vijay Iyer Trio (a piano, drums and double bass trio). There's a track on there called "Hood" which piques my interest every time it comes on. It plays around with chords and rhythm and song structure in a way that I kept feeling was somehow familiar to me. It grooves and builds in a very similar way to the kind of music we might make on our machines. So I had a quick look on google to see if there was any information about it and it turns out that it was inspired by Robert Hood (detroit techno) - quite cool! Here's a live performance of it:

@Gambler you can use a synth sampler and isolate a tiny grain to get close to the 8-bits sound, I really like it

I recently discovered Anamanaguchi, I really like it !

That new Dakim tape is nice!

King Krule!

I just bought his album after hearing a song by chance from the Rinse FM YouTube channel. Released 2013 but it doesn’t matter. It’s great! Loads of character and very distinct. Highly recommend this chap!

Today I am listening to Bowie, a sad day indeed

I just discovered this:

http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2016/01/20/pink-floyd-1965-butterfly/

Apparently, Pink Floyd released a double 7" of their first recordings at the end of last year. It’s now being sold for £220 + on ebay! Damn, I must have been sleeping under a rock when that was released!

Somebody posted a download link in the comments of the above page - nice tracks!

@yoof I saw that Pink Floyd 7" about a year too late as well. Syd is one of my biggest musical inspirations so I had strong words with myself for not knowing about this!

Right now I’m going thru Bowie’s discography. He’s always been around me, have always thought of him as a musical mastermind but somehow I’ve never gotten into his works deep enough. Maybe I just wasn’t ready until now… anyways, it’s Hunky Dory playing in my ears as I’m typing this…

Hunky Dory’s such a cool album! I was enjoying Low on the commute to work yesterday.

Indeed, a brilliant album.

Excellent ! Currently listening to Heroes' “V-2 Schneider”. I'm at the half of the Berlin trilogy :)

Apparently that song was named after Florian Schneider in Kraftwerk, @LyingDalai

Thx for the culture injection, @Yoof.

I coud bet I know “Sense of doubt” piano chords. In a hip-hop song, I would say. Saul Williams maybe…

Sorry to interrupt this conversation
I’m currently listening to the Future Sound Of London
